one more idee; the biig batt + cable does go to the starter solenoid+.... and sometimes they may be go to earth/ ground,, and no warning...you may meshure this if you disconect the batt + cable, and have the AMP meter between, or you need a pleuer type amp meter....remember its dierect cuurent....

Our 993 has a habit of doing this if left for a week, word of warning though if you ever jump start the car dont crank it over if its struggling, ours killed an airbag controller doing that.

Don't try to push start it ether. I tried to helped my mate start his 911 turbo on a slight hill. Just as I started to push it started, shot forward and I broke my nose on the spoiler, very painful. My three sons thought it was hilarious when my mate got out to see if I had damaged his car. Then he wouldn't give me a lift home because of the blood, just said I could do with the exercise. Sympathy is very thin on the ground hear in Suffolk.

500mA is still half an amp, too much.

Ok so had a chance to tinker with the Porsche.

It does have a drain of 1amp.

When I remove the fuse for the alarm, which also controls elec windows elec roof central locking inside lights with the fuse removed (15a) the drop goes to 500 milliamps.

So the parasitic drain lies somewhere within the above systems?

I've had the battery (Bosch s4) tested and it's fine..

I've for now disconnected the fuse for the aforementioned to see what happens and whether the battery drains

As always I welcome your thoughts/advice on my finding!

Thanks again for your kind help..

Also tony I'm not aware of navtrak and what it's for/ does?

It's similar to a Tracker unit, but unless the annual subscription is kept up to date, it's not gonna do anything other than draw current; in which case you may as well just pull the multi-plug feeding it. I'm told it's the only control box there. (Passenger side of front boot, high up behind carpet/panelling). We've just looked on line, but no obvious photos that will give any further info, soz.

              Hi All,

Been tinkering further, armed with a multimeter, as you know the drop on the multimeter was 0.43 with the fuse for elec windows/alarm/central locking/cab roof disconnected. as these were the main elecs in the car and after having a read on the net, the finger pointed to the ignition switch, so I bought and got my brother to change it for me, it was £12.00 from GSF or £250.00 from Porsche. (I went for the obvious) it comes from audi/vw parts bin i.e same part is shared throughout some audi and vw's too part num 4b0 905 849.

new ignition switch inserted. fuse inserted- still drawing 0.43A drain. (variable slightly up and down in the 0.4x region)

previously old ignition switch- fuse inserted- 3.00A drain.

previously old ignition switch- fuse disconnected 0.43A drain. (variable slightly up and down in the 0.4x region)

so an improvement, seems like it was the switch at fault, as well as something else.

at this point im thinking a historic tracker... until

I ventured further (disconnecting fuses) when I disconnect the telephone system fuse- the drop goes to 0.03A and stays there- this is with the alarm armed and all other elecs/fuses connected- doors/hood catches jammed (car thinks they are both closed) alarm armed with motion sensor deactivated (double press on fob, allows me to move around in car)

Im guessing a drain of 0.03A is ok?

so it seems like it was the ignition switch at fault, as well as the stereo/phone system.

For now, its a case of removing the fuse when I leave the car/replacing upon entry, until I get it (stereo/phone) looked at.

I would like to thank everyone, in the thread for your continued kind help! couldn't have done it without you!

funny thing is all the Porsche boys, don't look to fix the problem??> they go to Porsche who in turn sell them battery conditioners (plug in mains to cig lighter) and say the car must be driven at least 25miles a day for the battery to keep without the conditioner. some ppl comment on forums saying well my battery lasts all month no issues, others say mine lasts for 3 days and the car has to live on a conditioner??! and naturally believe they need a battery conditioner to plug into mains for when the car isn't in use...
