    Instrument Cluster Bulbs - again!

Is there a nack of getting the bulbs out of the holders? Or are the bulb and holder to be replaced at the same time?

I also have a strange wiring mod in the back of the cluster - a "WTF" moment - one of the wires has fallen off as well

Can anyone tell what bulbs the two bulbs light up?

I have a strange thing on my lights - when I put main beam on - all the cluster lights go off apart from teh blue main beam light!

      Answering my own questions here!

They are crimped in - so you either cut and solder new bulbs in, or spend the money on complete new bulbs - Where's the soldering iron? - How tight am I !!

VERY!!! Those bulbs are dirt cheap these days. If usual stealer prices are too much though PM a list of the ones you need and I'll sort them.

Just looking at the pics Doug, so can you just take the red covers off the bulbs to make the display brighter?

John - they are small orange socks over the bulbs.

I was thinking of changing to blue leds but they cost too much - and I am not sure if it would look right!

Someone posted before about the replacement leds being brighter. Not sure if they were the white or red LEDs though - still silly money! And you will have to check which way round you put every LED in the cluster.

LEDs are not good as they make bright spots.

I have those red 'doms too. They don't last red very long but certainly make the illumination more red.

All my socks are ok - what do you mean they don't last long? Do they discolour?

I am getting some red 286 bulbs (not leds) and I will solder them into the sockets - I just want the dash and gauges to be a bit more red - like the switches.

You can buy a similar bulb and holder that allows you to just change the bulbs without having to change the holder. The first time I ever tried to change bulbs in my '80 Sport I smashed them up!

You can buy the complete bulb and holder assy from any (decent) motor factor and they are literally pennies.

Change them all in one go and forget about them.....

                          Cheers,

                          Steve.

Can you get these in red too ? Like Doug I'd prefer my instrument cluster to appear more red rather than orange to match the switches.

I have not seen them in red though, and in my car they come as white anyway...
