    Bulb out warning light

    Hi
When I picked up my aby s2 there was a bulb out warning light on so when I got it home checked all the light and yep 3 ! were out , front o/s fog front o/s indicator and one rear number plate bulb , removed all bulbs and the only one that was blown was the rear n/p bulb the other two were bad connections that took a bit of cleaning terminals and then they came on , but warning light still on ? Just noticed tonight that one side of the rev counter looks like a bulb is out , question being will this bulb that is out on the dash cause the warning light to come on and if so how easy is it to take out instrument cluster and replace bulb ???

any info would be great ........

    thanks in advance

Autocheck does not monitor dash bulbs.

This may not be related to you, but I have a persistent bulb out warning which comes on when there is a voltage drop due to another current drain. I think it may be corrosion on the rear light trays which I am going to investigate....

Could definitely be a dirty bulb socket, multipin connection in bulb clusters or bad ground. Any rise or fall in the nominal current will trip the warning. Check that someone hasn't fitted LED bulbs to side lights or brake lights as these will draw less current and the computer will think the bulb is blown.

If its a coupe the rear light holders will probably be corroded. You can clean up the bulb holders, and the pins that go into the loom plug. The loom plug is a bit fiddly to clean inside, but can be improved with some patience.

Im also having this warning light but only when you put the lights on, I get the Ok sign when you press the brake pedal but as soon as the lights are switched on the warning light comes on. It only started this last week the other odd thing is while driving at night it goes out now and again but when i brake it comes back on then it might go out again and then come back on I have no hid lights fitted as yet and i have checked all the bulbs one number plate bulb was out cleaned it and it's ok but still getting the warning beep. So i guess it's an earth fault and some patience on my part to find the culprit.

Sounds like a bad connection or poor earth. I would first check the rear lamp holders and connector housings as Andy suggested above, they are prone to corrosion in the coupe and often cause all sorts of faults and disco light effects. I spray mine with dielectric grease every so often to waterproof them. Likewise the indicator and headlight connector housings

Yep agree with Alex. Bound to be rear light boards. Both my old CQ's used to do this despite not one bulb being faulty that I could tell. Lots of white corrosion on rear light holders. Clean em up and should be fine. I think one MOT it failed because it was doing all sorts of things when you hit the brake pedal (various disco lights in no order whatsoever)

Yep rear light boards, bad earth by the sounds of things if you get check light when you press the brake pedal only when the lights on.

I have only just cleaned the boards 4 wks ago as I have just re- sealed the light clusters and there was some corrosion present but all ok now, but will check again as I have lots of water getting in above the right cluster. come to think of it I didn't check the connectors

Water and leccy dont go together. My daily n/s front indicator is playing silly bu*gers at the moment. It is going hell for leather like it normally does when one of the repeaters on that side has blown but they are all fine. It has rained so much that moisture has got inside the lens and I presume onto the contact. If I hit the cover quite hard it corrects it. Ovvo a faulty connection due to the water as I can see lots of droplets from the outside. Stupid weather.

Agree mental weather at the mo, my car was in the car park in work on Wednesday
I work up in the welsh mountains, the wind was measured at 108mph on our opencast site and we were all sent home and when I got to the car the passenger side had water in it up to the sill and was running out of the car lucky I have no carpets in at the mo I took them out before xmas as the car is leaking like a sieve and the carpets and underlay were soaking.
