      None starter

Interesting as my S2 has a similar problem, occasionally it won't engage the starter, the dash lights come on as normal when the ignition key is turned but the starter doesn't engage, it's just dead, I've checked the starter end, I've "wiggled" the relays in the fusebox when this has happen and on occasion this appears to have done something to temporarily fixed the problem, it has happened with the engine cold & hot, I'd really like to find and fix this.

My mate had similar problem with his VW - turned out to be the ground cable, it had some corrosion on it. He took it off, cleaned both ends, put it all back and the problem was solved.
