    Communicate car vs laptop HOW?

I know that you can get software for you PC, so that you can access the dianose in the car.

My questions is what software, cabel between car / pc, and where do i plug in the cable in the car?

Is it possible that the cable is always connected to the pc/ car?

Vag-Com from www.ross-tech.com . You can leave it connected all the time and especially useful if you have an in car PC with touch screen. There are various types of cable and they are available in USB or Serial connections. The S2 needs the optional "2x2" connector and it is attached to the car via some connectors in the fusebox. It would be useful to install it so the cable is removable, that way you can test other VAG vehicles with the same equipment via their OBDII ports.

Use the link I posted. I purchased mine direct from Ross Tech. I bought the HEX-USB with the 2x2 as it was suitable for most of the newer models too.

Some people have made their own cables and use hacked software but I am not a supporter of this.

Sorry to crash the thread and all but has anybody ever tried one on a 7A engine? What will it do etc?

              Thanks,

kninio, hex-usb+can is only needed on the recent audis. You will be fine with key-usb if your car is pre 2002

Don't get carried away - there isn't that much you can test with VAGCOM on the older Audis, and RHD cars don't have the digital climate control.

Seriously though - treat airbag controllers with LOTS of respect - do NOT have anyone inside the car if you have VAGCOM hooked up to an airbag controller. I've never seen it happen on the 80/90 series but some recent cars can have the airbags deployed when using VAG-COM.

If you use the genuine vag-com cables, then yes codes can be pulled. However, if you choose to use one of the aftermarket cables with the 2x2 connector that are often seen advertised for sale on ebay, then "no" they won't work with the 7A.
