    Ignition barrel problems

My coupe has been sat in the garage all week I went out today and went to start it. Nowt happened I realised that the ignition barrel offers no resistance and all I get is the fuel pump running contunously.
I assume my ignition barrel or switch has fallen apart. I've looked and can't find a good guide. Any pointers guys.
Is it best to get both barrel and switch? If so how do I get around immob issue? Ste

My S6 had a problem with the ignition switch it turned on but would not engage the starter. A plastic part in the barrel had broken. According to Audi it was quite a common failure. It was along time ago but I don't think it was very expensive.
Sorry I cant be more help, but its worth checking out.

      Ignition switch replacement DIY

It most likely is not the ignition lock cylinder but rather the electrical switch that is attached to the back of the lock cylinder. This is a common failure point which causes multiple electrical/stalling symptoms.

Replacement requires removal of the instrument cluster but isn't very difficult. Here is one DIY you could use as a guide"

Fuel pump should not run if engine is not cranking over

I've had both on my coupe, first the switch broke, easy to replace by removing cluster. Then last year the tang at the back of the barrel snapped off and wouldn't turn the switch. Again it's not too hard to do but I didn't want to have a different key so bought a new lock and managed to swap the back part over to the old one.

I stripped it all out in about 45 mins. Bare'll tap snapped and plastic recess in switch worn.
both ordered via audi and ready Wednesday. I'll have a different key but I have remote cl anyway.
I may swap roll pin anyway to keep it originAl.
          one less thing to fail.
          I'll have rebuilt it soon.
noise I heard was after run pump not fuel pump.
I started it easily with screwdriver
