New to S2: Need Help with B4 RS2 Light Conversion

    Hello,

New to the S2 forum (usually on MG the most) but I need some help putting in a pair of RS2 lights in my '95 B4.

I followed the wiring diagram on 20v.org but here's the problem:
Whenever the lights are "on" the High beam indicator light on the dash is dimly lit. Then, whenever the highs are triggered they don't shut off.

Voltage at the OEM plug shows 7Volts on the Hi signal whenever the lights are on. Seems like its not enough to trigger the realy, but enough to keep it on once its triggered.

    More details here:
Just bought a set of RS2 headlights from a member on here, looking into wiring them up. Using the Wiring Diagram from 20v.org everything seems pretty straight forward for the 4-pin connector but what about this 3-pin connector on this little black module mounted to the back of the lights? Is...

    Any help greatly appreciated!

the same indicator would light up on mine, when i didn't have bulbs in the high beam location. do you have a good set of bulbs in all the headlights? IE 4 H1 bulbs?

All the bulbs work, I can't testify to the condition of them though. Just using what they came with...

But i agree, it's acting like there are no headlights there (same behavior on the dash if no lights are plugged in).

on a US spec b4 90, all you should have to do is remove the old headlights, plug in the new ones. nothing else. they will work.

Well you'd have to add the wire for the blinker at least?

I guess the extra wiring on 20V.org is a "nice to have" wiring upgrade...

I'll try to see what the result is plugging the OEM connectors directly into the RS2s tonight...

For us going from non elipsoid to elipsoid lights we have to swap a wire in the light switch stalk

                  Thanks for the link!

Seems to be unclear whether or not it's necessary or the same wiring but I'm willing to try anything at this point!

you dont need to add the wire for the blinker, there is not an internal blinker on the RS2 headlight. Generally bumpers are also upgraded around the time as the headlights and you would just run your stock blinker wires into your new bumper.

There are some people that add a blinker into the RS2 headlight, but again, it should be a second set of wires. The ONLY other wire that is in the RS2 headlight that is not in the US spec wiring is the daytime running light. that is what that 4th wire is for.

                      0ooo...

OK... I see now. That answers a few questions. Thank you!

Seeing as I don't have a decent bumper on my hands, I should be able to make that light a blinker... It's either that or back to DOT until I can source a bumper... hmm.

there is a running light in the rs2 headlight, and many people in the US have converted that into a turn signal.

Although I don't expect that to change the High Beam issue, but I will try out some things tonight.

Ok, got the problem solved last night. The issue was with the fog light relay. It was provided a feed to the high beams since there was no resistance along that path anymore. You can see it clearly on the wiring diagram I put on the motorgeek forum.

I looked at my switch wiring last night and it is different than pictured so I don't believe US spec cars need to do anything there. Everything seems to be working fine, just need to figure out what resistance to put in the running light wiring to make it blink at the right rate to be used as a blinker.
