My s2 just caught on fire!!!

i was cleaning the a pillar interior panels, i moved the pass sunvisor and saw what looked like a puff of dust. carried on, next thing plumes of smoke coming from roof and dash area! I sh#t myself....lukily had spanner to undo battery.

I have traced it to the bosch alarm system with the funny sensor unit screwed to the roof control panel. i was going to cut it off the other day. i have stripped some of dash and traced loom to the plugs into the bosch unit......

all wires up to roof unit have melted, the melted wires seem to be spliced / soldered onto existing wires.

    a pillar....

i need to trace all wiring and hope it hasnt fried ecu or something similar. i need to by pass this alarm now, anybody have any advice please? never done before, i am a spark and guessing its just a relay contact that cuts power to certain items in car such as ecu possibly and or starter circuit..

i am hoping this wont be as much trouble as it looks.

Right, I'm having a look under my RS2's drivers dash panel this weekend, I knew it was sensible carrying a fire extinguisher.

I expect you'll be fine if you got the battery disconnected quickly, just remove all the obvious after-market stuff and join the factory wires back together, good luck!!!

Where was the black box attached to?

I always carry a fire extinguisher as well. Hope you get it sorted soon.

It has melted a good part of the alarm loom. Hope no further back.

Black box was connected to yellow led on centre switch panel, a part of loom going towards ignition module / switch or in that direction past radio by clocks etc. The other part goes down under by passenger carpet possibly forwards then towards the main loom or ecu. Will know more in morning. Im nights so have time in day to strip it a bit. Car has old school foxguard immibiliser too.

Alarm has never gone off. Didnt know it had one or worked but its going off now if i plug all back in and connect battery. No power to starter. Ignition is coming on though

No Audi PN numbers = probably aftermarket. Found several references to Merceded Benz vehicles circa 1992.

I can find nowt on it as far as instructions or wiring diagrams. Il just try and remove it. It has markings for each terminal but i cant decipher what they mean.

disheartened to say the least, never mind could have been worse

It could have been game over if you weren't lucky enough to be with the car when it happened and had the good sense to disconnect the battery promptly.

De-alarming cars isn't hard, it's just time consuming and a little fiddly if you want to do a tidy job. I can get past most after-market systems and have the engine running in under ten min's but putting it all back tidily takes a lot more time.

i hve found the culprit. someone has screwed sun visor base through the wires to the interior sensor. i have no diagram now so am looking as to what circuit it is interrupting. its a bosch bloctronic. want the car running today regardless of interior mess. what do they normally interupt? starter circuit, fuel or power to ingnition coils etc?
                    cheers

                        Immobs normally break 2 circuits.
If the car won't crank the immob is cutting the starter.
Often they cut fuel pump, sometimes ignition as well. To bypass the immob you need to find where the aftermarket crap cuts the OEM harness and solder it back together.
With Thatcham approved installs you can normally identify these connections by a ragged mess of peeling insulation tape roughly covering a greasy ball of bird **** solder the size of your thumb

ha, sorted. got the car running by shorting out starter relay contacts off alarm. just disconnecting one by one now to make sure everything still works as it should.

                              i used this as reference
