HID kits - current recommendations ?

Last time I bought some for a b4 was from vag parts ( rip ) and were excellent. That was quite some time ago now.

What are you currently using ? Dipped beam and fog

    Thanks

Is it allowed in UK to fit HID's to halogen headlights? We're getting MOT failures automatically here. They can even fine and strip us of MOT if they catch us on the street with those.

What's the reasoning behind the requirement for headlight washers ?

The light is refracted by dirt on the lense, hence the requirement for skooshers.
....... if my memory from my MOT days is correct?

I think you could say the same about a light with a normal halogen bulb, but as the HID is so much brighter it's more of a problem if it's pointing where it shouldn't.

I believe the MOT specifies automatic level adjustment, to compensate for varying axle loads.
Bottom line, it comes down to how switched on the tester is.
If the install looks OEM or is hidden and the light output isn't too blue, i.e. 5k or thereabouts, they don't even notice

agreed...less chavvy looking the better for the MOT, even sides they get funny with. Always try to keep mine a very white light, so 5k seems to fit the bill

Sounds good to me. I've had HID's fitted to my bike for the last 6 yrs and it's never been mentioned and again they are 5k each side

First Audis with HID dosen't have automatic lever adjust.
In fact. the audi S6plus headlamps glass haven't a different ref. from the nonHID light

i would dare to say 99,9% of aftermarket HID stuff sold in europe is chinese anyway, so I always order directly from china, most of the times through Aliexpress. No meed to spend triple the money on a kit that still has poor quality.
Ballasts; DLT is the brand to go for. Certainly as good as OEM.
Bulbs; Many options there, but look for bulbs that have an anti UV coating in the glass, otherwise they'll screw up the reflective coating in the projector over time. Also make sure the glass tube is well supported in the socket for instance ceramic or stainless. 4300K or 5000K for oem appearence.

Currently i have 50w 4300k in the mains + 35w 4300k in the high beam reflectors. All through DLT fast-bright ballasts. Original projectors have been replaced with bi-xenons, so thats a total of 210w xenon on main beams.
I wont bother to change the inner highs to 50w also as the road signs will probably become too blinding.

The fogs are some good 35w 4300k chinese bulbs, powered through a rubbish set of ballasts that I bought a couple years ago here in holland WITH warranty. It doesnt say anything. Sometimes they dont even power up if the battery voltage is under 13v. Will change them for DLT's at some point.
