    TFSI / HO coil conversion

I've read the threads, but I don't see any direct comparison between TFSI and HO coil conversions.

What are the pros/cons of each, and how's people's first hand experience of the options?

I see on a thread the 034 HO option is not ideal for RHD.

Does decision come down to application? Im in a hot climate and the S2 is used for motorsport only - probably below 450bhp power wise.

    Cheers
    Mick

Both will easily cope with your output, I would suggest the remote mounted coils might be more reliable in your hot climate.

The 034 kit is not of very good fitment or quality from what I have seen.
I am currently running a custom remote mounted LS2 coils setup with Magnecor leads: the trade off is that you do take up more space in the engine bay.
I might be tempted to part with this setup as I need to create some space.

As the "inventor" of the 1.8T/TFSI coil pack conversion back in 2005, I would say that if you are going to track your car with that much hp, that you want a very robust ignition system and that you should therefore consider either a completely new stock system, i.e. 2 new POSs and 5 new stock coils *OR* going with an LS2 coil conversion such as that offered by EFI Express. The LS2 coils are easier to obtain than the 034 Motorsport HO coils (which they claim were made exclusively for them and obtainable only from them). LS2 coils were used on several different General Motors/Opel/Vauxhall V8s.

The little 1.8T/TFSI coils tend to cook themselves under sustained high RPM conditions such as tracking, especially if you don't alter the engine software so the dwell is 2.5 ms (instead of the stock 4.0 ms).

What needs to be done to fit to RHD S2?… or can't it?

No space to install the coils in the same positions
The leads and harness therefore aren't long enough
