poor contact at fuse connector. This made the amps to go high and melt the fuse.
Maibe with good cleanup and contact enhancer you will be able to fix that.

Alwyas frustrates me when fuses do this instead of just blowing, seems to override the safety aspect of the fuse

Any electrical connection that is not tight will create heat as the currant passes through it and in this case the heat has melted the fuse and fuse box base, think your self lucky it could have went on fire, dose look like a replacement fuse box is required, make sure all of the remaining fuses have a good tight connection, simple test would be to run the car for 30 minuets or so and remove the fuse box lid and do a touch test with your finger, no fuse should run that hot that you can not touch it.

As above, poor connection making resistance resulting in heat.

Fuel pump fuse! I didn't read the fuse box lid properly..

Time to relay the pump under the back seat I reckon.

#5 & 6 spot on, in my opinion.
Corrosion (prob on the fuse, as opposed to the carrier- which is prob brass) is almost certainly the issue here.
If it was caused by overcurrent, then I can't see the heat being transferred to only one side of the carrier in the fusebox.
Fire? I really don't think that the fusebox is gonna be made from a normally flammable material. (Again- IMO)
