  • HID bulb replacement?

One of my HIDs has failed, when I switched them on the other night it flickered for a few seconds then died and didn't come back.
Is this normal for an HID? Can I get a bulb or is it better to buy a new kit? ( these are very white..)
Or could it be the ballast??
    How do I find out?

These are an aftermarket kit fitted by a previous owner into the stock ellipsoids.

    I've never been here before.

Swap bulb or ballast pack to the other side...

If they are the regular cheap ebay kits you can buy the bulbs or ballasts separately, i have done so in the past when i had a dodgy bulb.

      Newsh,

As macandmar said... might be worth checking the earth connection on that side...

They don't last forever, it could be the ballast or the bulb. The quality of these kits is improving.. I changed mine a few months ago to a 75w kit from China, very impressed with the quality, quick start, no flicker and great light output. Took a few weeks to arrive but worth the wait... If you want to go this route I can send you a link...

Pity I am away, I have plenty of spare ballast and bulbs, you should have had the fault last week and I could have sent them to you... muppet !! ..

I can tell you to avoid these:-

I had one of mine go recently and I bought these to replace it and they were garbage, a standard H1 halogen bulb would have put out more light!

Agree- they are getting better quality now.the easiest thing buddy-swap the bulbs, just do it with ignition and lights OFF(don't ask why)

I changed mine at the onset of winter, after I fitted 2 ebay specials 12 months' before.
One of the lads in work has a Halfords Trade Card, which I borrowed, and this reduced the price from £90 ea to £45 ea.

I'm not a fan of Halfords, but they're good quality and come with a 3 year warranty.....

Try these particular Hi LED bulbs.

                          https://www.amazon.co.uk/s/?ie=UTF8&...l_6sdrczmame_b

                          These ones.

                          TECHMAX LED Headlight Bulbs All-in-One Conversion Kit - H1 -7,200Lm 60W 6000K Cool White CREE - 3 Year Warranty

                          They are fantastic and inexpensive.

They light up immediatley so work brilliantly on main beam, do not flicker and are very bright, they make the headlights look light a 2017 model car's headlights.

A tiny 'ballast' small than a box of matches, and just a positive and negative wire to connect.

The only downside is you have to cut a hole in the black dust cover at the rear of the headlight when fitting the dipped beam bulbs, easy enough to make up a slight bulge in plastic to maintain the 'airtightness' of the headlight 'shell'.

Try them and post how you get on !

I think mine are brilliant and I'm not given to over-egging it.

                          Xenons are so passe.

                              HID bulb replacement?

It was the ballast, I've ordered another off eBay for about 7 quid. I've bought a whole new 6k kit too, avoiding the real cheapie ones. The ones I have are 8k and I fancy trying softer light.
For the moment I've just swapped in some normal H1s
