3B catch tank, is this correct setup? Need verifycation!

On the picture (below) there are to arrows. This is very iam going to connect hoses that goes to the catch tank. Then iam going to block off the maf hose inlet where the pipe 2A on picture goes into the MAF hose. Iam also going to block of where part 11a goes into the solonid valve.
And then iam going to remove everything inside the black line. Thus this seem correct to do?
I have not gotten a flame resistor, but if it is needed i will buy one from audi.

That looks about right Jonas. I have done this on my ABY. It is a right PITA to get the breather pipework out though. I only recently finished removing all mine while I had the throttle body off to change the vacuum pipes behind it.

Where the solenoid connects to 11a there is a T-Piece which connects it to the intake manifold. I removed all the pipework to it and connected the solenoid straight to the manifold with some 8mm vacuum hose.

It might be easier to leave pipe 1a in place as it connects the two breather outlets on the engine and then have one connection to the catch tank coming from there where the flame trap (5a) and pressure reg (4a) fit on.

This would avoid having to get a large diameter step as the pipe is around 15mm coming from 1a instead of around 30mm where it meets the block.

I would really be happy if someone would show a pictures on how-to make this cathtank and where what to connect. I've read about 10 different threads and still don't understand :/

What's the purpose of this catch tank.
What does it bring or do??

          Hi Ben,

Well i got the t-fitting as you, but the solenoid valve sits straight onto the t-fitting, seems fairly easy to get off. The picture is a bit misleading I guess.

I was under the impression, that you were supposed to block off the solenoid valve where it connects to the t-fitting, but keep the connection that the solenoid valve already have to the IM? Iam a bit confused about the 8mm hose that you used?

Well i would consider keeping 1a, but the hose (1a) going to the upper crack outlet really looks like **** to be honest So iam not sure it would be wise to keep it and a new is like 75£ and i can get a lot of new hose for that.
My plan was to to take to seperate hoses and feed them into a custom SS catch tank with to inlets of 15mm and 30mm. But for now, i will feed the into a soda plastic bottle to see if it has any effect.

You now what, i will try to remember my digital camera and take pictures as i remove the PCV system and install my catch tank.
Perhaps then i can make a mini guide on how to do it on a 3b.

                Jonas,

I looked at the price of 1a and your right it isn't worth replacing it if it is damaged.

On the solenoid valve you have a pipe going into it from the Charcoal filter and then it connects to the t piece. The t piece connects to the inlet manifold one side and the PCV system the other.

If you remove the t piece you can connect a pipe straight from the solenoid to the manifold. This is how it is fitted on the AAN engine. I just used 8mm silicone vacuum hose and it has been fine.

                Sweeper (and others),

Taking photos is something I had planned to do but I ended up doing the fitting over such a long period of time that I never got round to sorting it out.

The can itself is a very simple bit of kit. Mine is basically a 3" cylinder with inlets on one side and an outlet on the other.

Here is a technical diagram of the tank I had built below.

And here it is in the car (old picture as my vacuum pipes are now barbie pink)

The two connections on the right hand side are connected to the crankcase and the cylinder head breathers. This would be where the two arrows on Jonas picture are connected to.

The connection on the left is for cleaned air to leave the tank. Mine exits into the old AC pipe out underneath the OS wing.

The connection on the bottom is for collected oil to return to the sump.

                HTH,

                Ben

Why would one want a catch tank?
                  What's the advantage??

                  Thx

You would avoid having oil blown into your MAF hose and then the oil gets into the turbo and ic.

If your PCV system is not working 100% you can have boost leaks and i also think it can cause bad running.
