Hello. Im looking to get the Garrett GT35R turbo for my I5 S4. I wanted to ask you guys a few questions. This turbo is available in different hotside on the turbo. Whats your opinion on HP output and spool for each? The car will be daily driven and I plan to make 550+hp:
63 hotside OR GT35r .82 hotside are so reasonably priced that you could buy them both. the .63 is good up to 450hp without too high back pressure in header. For high end power ~550hp+ above 6000 to 8000 rpm you take the bigger one. The .63 gives nice all day drivability at 3000 rpm allready. The more radical cams you have the bigger turbo you need and bigger hot side to avoid too high back pressure. Bigger cams eat and misuse more air but breathing of gases is better inside the cylinder. Better breathing is healthier for high power engine to lower the thermal stresses. Making the right compromises is very difficult.
I would be very interrested in information about what rpm you get full turbo presure, and especially if you have any dyno graphs or numbers that give an impression of the shape of the torque and HP graphs.
