    Chip'ing

A quick question for you as I am a complete novice. After 1 year of ownership I am caving in and looking to 'chip' my s2 aby coupe from standard to 270 bhp. I note that Kim Collins (qst) does this with MTM hardware (which I understand is the best) for £650. Is this the right think to do, or is an ECU re-map cheaper/less intrusive...or indeed, is that the same thing - I am concerned about having a chip welded on.

I want it done properly with the best components etc, so pricing alone is not the only criteria.

Sad to say that the main reason for this is a trip to Nurburgring later this year with a friend who is taking his nice shiny new 911.

    Thanks boys.

    Jamie,

QST is by no means the be all and end all, if you check the threads on the forum there is quite a few different options, all with their pro's and con's.

Two companies which have tuned members cars are MRC tuning and Chip Wizards by doing custom maps & generic's

is a custom map simply reprograming the ecu - ie nothing is added to the car?

QST do a decent job but it's not value for money as the mapping is generic.

For less moeny you can have a real time remap by MRC.

contact Doug_RS2 for details and pricing.

There are alot of satisfied customers around.

Other companies to consider are AMD, RSD and TSR

AMD don't work on S2's any more as they are "too old" - ****s!!

Besides whats wrong with a 'homefry', it may be generic but it's well known that it does the job.

I had a Chip conversion done by AmD. Eventually due to various problems I changed it for one (Homefry) from Paul Nugent (S2central) and have never looked back. Much cheaper also than the likes of QST or AmD. Search "Homefry" and see the results from other's on this site. MRC should also be included in your research.

Nothing i have a homefries in my car But if money is not a concern as stated in first post then he should get a MRC remap as it is custom mapped to the car and not generic for all cars as no 2 cars are the same in performance.

Jamie, another vote for a homefry. good value and a tried and tested product. you will notice the difference, believe the hype.

No, I'd go for a homefry and some brakes as my unbiased recommendation.
                              £750 would get both.
