Yes this did happen to me, but only because I stupidly forgot to tighten a clip on the WGFV hose, this has little or nothing in common with the events described above.

Well I have always been under the impression that the ECU would know this is happening...........

As you say probably worth starting another thread to ask the question.

I have been following this thread and the way it has developed with interest as I have a ported head too.
I did it myself and spent a lot of time trying to get it 'right'.

I also removed a fair bit of metal from the exhaust ports, and obvously don't want the same thing to happen to me.

Bry makes some good points, whilst conceding that the head was probably weakened by a 'tuner' with a chisel (Doug has already pointed out that the workmanship was poor).

I haven't seen Johnny's engine or the damage. However, it does sound as if something
'dramatic' happened to cause enough pressure to rupture the port and cause the oil/coolant leak and the subsequant hydrolock.

So what did it then? From what I have read the motor did run well for a long time. So it would be useful to to find out what did cause it, particularly from a selfish standpoint for me, because as I said above I don't want to do the same. Are there any pics of Johnny's head and the damage, particularly the ports where they split............it would be useful to see how much material was removed from them.

Lets try to keep it civil and discuss it, there is a difference between argument and debate, and I am sure Jamo doesn't want to see his thread and the issues it has raised go to the same graveyard of deleted threads (where things have got too personal) as others that have gone the same way in the past.

        Mark.

LOL in hindsight yes it was, threads lead off on tangents sometimes, and this one was also getting nasty and a bit too personal for no real reason either.

You have done the right thing by starting off this new thread.

Relax Jamo your thread is safe

You forgot the previous chain of events - massive boost leak - someone pressure tested and could not test it properly, someone was told which hoses to visually check - obviously didn't. Someone changed the WGFV to a fuc4ed one (as well as being the wrong one) and didn't tighten the hose onto one of the WGFV connections correctly. Now you have the turbo able to spin up to as much as it can. Add into that the kinked hose to the ECU so the ECU has no idea what is happening - how many human errors, due to incompetance, has caused the car to run badly for a long period of time?

You should not just focus on one thing in a small timeframe - a lot more has happened than has been said here. A lot of people have had boost spikes, or ran boost controllers, etc and they have not caused blown exhaust ports.

So. What's the correct boost level in each gear again?
I'm sure i get more than 0.4 bar in 1st gear.

Can we draw a line under this NOW

If you want to argue about Johnnys car please do so offline or in a boxing ring.

I'm interested in other homefry users or MRC chipped cars to compare boost levels as i think this would be nice information available on a mod that is quite common to S2 owners on the forum.
