need help!!!!

hi folks.dont know if anybody can help
just connected my s2 avant on a friends diagnostic machine(snap-on) and it has come up with the following fault code......Engine speed sensor G28.....any ideas????
i also took the plugs out tonite and they where Black"carbon" Help please!!! thanks

The plugs will be black if you have a boost leak after the turbo.

thanks for that!!! so check again with the engine running?? when you say after the turbo..is there anywhere i should look in particular?? i have checked the big pipe off the turbo,but no visible signs. also finding it a problem to take the air box out i know its sounds a bit stupid but dont know these engines very well,used to V-Dubbs!!!! thanks

Why are you taking the airbox out?
The pressure is made by the turbo, so check from the coldside of the turbo (front) around the intercooler / crossmember and back around the engine into the throttle body.
Check on the forum for the MArk Halligan mod and if it's not done on your car, get it done.

The IC to Cross member mod is done on your car James or was? Not likely to be removed though? The plugs my be black if you have done your diagnostic checks when its cold? All engines have to naturally over fuel when cold, Reset all codes and take it for a 20 minute blast and check codes when you get back?

its started to do some strange things.it is stalling more and hunting alot at tick over.Drove it 400 miles yesterday,its fine on a run...!its also missing when i start it in the morning and wont pick up on the revs.it will when i play with the throttle pedal and when it does pick up it throws out some smoke,give it a few revs,the smoke clears.(hard to explain on text) i have cleaned the plugs,cleaned the Maf and put a genuine air filter back in,and also cleaned the Isv.....any ideas????????
