Because deposits build up between the injector tip and injector body, therefore preventing the injector from closing completely, this then allows a small amount of fuel to "leak" from the injector during the closed part of the cycle.

One of the tests that is carried out during the injector service is a "leak" test.

ahhhh - ok - so the car must have been hard to start - if you had 3cc/30sec of leakage in a couple of injectors?

I've just spoken to the guys at Asnu and they have told me that they are happy to have a few of us visit them on a saturday morning for an injector cleaning session. They said that they can give us a demonstration of what exactly is involved and they will be happy to answer any questions that you might have.

Please PM me if you are interested in this and I'll arrange it

I'd be interested in theory, reckon after 14 years my injectors might need a good clean - where are they again, sorry...

In the words of Asnu "These additives also coat the internal components of the injector, restricting the fuel flow and pintle travel. The coating also increases the surface tension as the fuel exits the injector, causing a drag effect and by doing so, creating a larger droplet of fuel."

In terms of the flow rates I mentioned; the 30sec bit is approximate and was me judging the time it took to fill the tubes. I don't know if the asnu test machine does flow rate tests to an industry standard at a particular rpm rate or whether it is just for its own comparison test.

Although rather long winded look here for a full explanantion of all things injector:

spoke to one of the service centres in my area. they cannot do the work on a saturday and also would not take the injectors out themselves.

whats involved in removing the injectors?

I'd be interested in doing a group visit on a saturday but watford is a bit far from manchester

Damn!, I'd be well up for that if I was closer
I've used Red-Line Si-1 (or something) Injector cleaner...did seem to make a difference, but now worried about the comments about deposits ....time to start using Optimax instead maybe (RR uses 95 octane, 91 with loss of power).

Are the Injectors easy to take out?, do you have to de-pressurize the fuel system first, like the older Injection systems?

Its a 15 minute job to get the injectors out. I also took them to an ultrasoon company to clean them. It was a hell of a difference. It took two hours to clean them and cost where something between 20 - 25 euro a piece.
