Same old problem - but we're getting closer!

    Chaps/Chapeses

Please help me with this. The problem is long running, I have explained it here before and many here have experienced the same issue for different reasons.

The car stutters violently under hard acceleration. Investigations so far have ruled out the following:-

Boost leak - albeit maybe this needs triple checking
    Faulty Potentiometer

Potential causes not yet ruled out:-

    Knock sensors.

I have recently had the car serviced and the following fault codes have been reported:-

1)00544 - Max change air pressure exceeded - incorrect signal
2)00561 - Mixture adjustment - adaptation limit (mult) not reached

In addition, Paul is about to give me a re-map. I am about to swap over ecu’s and send mine to him for some serious steroid treatment. However, I will be at Castle Combe on Saturday and it may be best to leave my ecu in until then and get the opinions of you more experienced folk…not to mention the fact I don’t know how to swap them.

    My questions therefore:

    1) Does anyone know the direct causes of these fault codes other than the description provided (ie what does it mean).
    2) Can someone take a look at the car on Saturday…possibly…pretty please.
    3) Can someone show me how to swap the ecu over.

    Thanks boys and girls.

Jamie - I wasn't aware you had running problems before sending the ECU. That's OK as long as you know it won't be a miracle cure for running problems.

    My suggestions -

Air leak - make absolutely certain its air tight - including braided control hoses
    Faulty MAF or dirty connector
    Faulty WGFV
Faulty TBV (corresponds to air leak really)
    Split WG diaphragm
    Throttle pot
Ambient pressure sender (passenger side A-pillar)

Its a good idea to renew the lambda probe unless you know its fresh. Knock sensors are a ****** - hard to test unless one is o/c or s/c.

Finally - make sure to RESET the ECU to clear the fault codes. There is a chance you are carrying old fault codes around. Do this BEFORE swapping any more components... And if the fault returns you must reset it each time...

Note - The ECU swap is a 10 minute job for anyone that has done it before.

Jamie, Also i think people on this forum have cured similar problems by replacing the spark plugs.

Do you have an ABY? If so, would also suspect knackered Coilpacks?

Agree - but these are best checked last - lots of other things more likely to go wrong !

            Thanks boys.

            Spark plugs just been changed.

i know the re-map wont cure problems and that i wont feel the benefit until i have cured the problem, but am keen for you to do it and ill try and get the problem sorted in the interim.

I have an ABY - coil packs!!! - expensive

Ill run through your list (hopefully some of them tomorrow with some friendly people) and see what we can eliminate.
