This might be a silly question, but if you were to change the rods and bearings only, would it still need a rebalance?

Im trying to think of how i can do mods bit by bit without it having to be done in such a big chunk and if i can just do the rods and bearings and run like that until the next step that makes life easier i think.

Yep thats a good question ant! I dont know if it needs balancing if you just replace the rods. I have made some different stages of my project to save the money .
        0. safe for the parts to rebuild engine
        1. Get engine out
        2. bring engine to rebuilder
        3. Put new brakes (porsche) and suspension on
        4. put engine in with standard parts
        5. safe for tuning parts (already have some parts)
        6. put all parts on and call Mihnea.
        7. drive.

Thats not possible. the cranck is balanced with pistons and rods. Unless the aftermarket rods have the exact same weight as the OEM rods....

There's not much that is obvious about the black art of balancing engines - especially our weird and wonderful 5zyl versions. Please please please only ever entrust this kind of work to someone with proven solid experience of the Audi I5 engine balancing.

If Jeffer has recommended someone he has worked with then I think you are fine. Its a very specialised process.

I know jeffer also runned with the stock parts(turbo etc.) first. Before he changed all. Besides that saving 10.000 euro takes a long time, I want to get busy with the project.

I read good stories form the company which did jeffers engine. And I think jeffers engine has proven to be build correct, If I look at the abuse it already got.

nope not that i know of, I read somewhere that 3b where the strongest. But also they are on the limit with 550 - 600nm.

But if you first tune it and then break it? That will cost you more or there is no money for a rebuild... Why not stick to 350 bhp / 500 Nm or so and go further on a later stage?
