What noise should a standard dump valve make?

My dump valve has become noisy making three quick chuffs when I lift off the throttle on boost. I am also getting quite a jerk in the car when doing this. Fuel consumption has gone to pot too although performance still feels fine. It used to just make one longer chuff.

I assume the dump valve fitted is the standard one as the car was totally unmodified when I got it. Should it be making any noise at all? I would normally associate the noise I'm getting with those aftermarket things that chavs fit to their turbo cars to 'upgrade' them. Not the sort of noise I'd expect from an Audi. We have recirculating dump valves don't we?

I've got to spend a bucket full of money with VAGparts soon. Looks like I'm going to be adding an S3 dump valve to the list, at least their not to pricey.

An occasional 'lsigh' 'cuff' on sudden lift off under full boost is normal in my experience. Anything else replace IMHO..as you say they are not expensive and do wear out

I don't think standard valve make any noise. Mine doesn't. Are you sure you have a standard on there? Perhaps it is broken - hence the noises....

I am sure someone will be along shortly......

I think you will only hear a standard dump valve when you have fitted a open air filter. After replacing my standard airfilter by an open air filter it got noisy, but the sounds was always sweet and never made chuffs.

          Totally agree with Erikb's comments.

I never heard any noise really until removing the airbox. Waveydavey, the original valve on mine made a sound like you describe.

I've still got the original airbox on mine so I guess I shouldn't be hearing anything. I'll have a poke about over the weekend to check it is an original valve. At about £20 all in it's not going to break the bank if I get a new S3 one anyway.

            Thanks chaps

Well I get that slight noise on sudden lift off with a new DV but only when I nail it and then suddenly lift off.
Agree that more than that needs sorting

                  Hi Fourrings

Thanks for the offer , I'll drop you a PM to sort out the details.

Don't suppose you've got an RS2 turbo, EM, injectors, intercooler, F&R ARBs and a 'bomb' that you want to let go for a similar price do you? I might be willing to go up as far as three pints for that lot

                  Cheers

                  David

Sounds like the valve has split, standard ones are almost totally quiet, however if u remove the airbox or replace the filter element then you can here it on lift off just 'whoosh'.

Fitted my new S3 DV this afternoon, thanks once again to Jason

Noise is still just as loud as with the old one but I'm back to one long chuff rather than the three quick ones I have been getting for the past few weeks.

While I had the car in bits I noticed that on the hose that runs from the AFM to the turbo there is a small take off pipe that has been blocked off with a bolt and jubilee clip. Anybody know what should be there and why it might have been removed?

You got a pic Davey? can't picture the hose you mean, but a bolt and jubilee blocking it defo sounds not right.

Do you mean the pipe from the MAF to the Turbo? If so that small pipe near the cam cover is normally connected to the PCV breather system. Maybe you have a catch tank fitted?

The WGFV should be connected to this pipe take off

Yes, that's the one. Didn't see a spare wire and connector hanging around though.

I had the car chipped just after I got it and I remember the chap saying that he had done something with the control of the wastegate. Not understanding these things I just nodded as my eyes glazed over

Is it safe for me to be running without a WGFV? Can anybody explain, in simple terms, what it does and why the chap who chipped my car has removed it.
