What you must realize is that the gt40r is much better if "All" you want it 750hp. The GT4294R is a great turbo, but there is a good 800-1000 rpm difference in spoolup.
Check out this comparison between the two:
That is the only reason I'm not going with the gt4294r right off the bat.
YIKES! What is the car doing from 1000-7000rpms. Nothing....he has to rev it to 7000rpms and drop the clutch everwhere just so he can move the car .
Thats not a good car to compare the 2.3L to. That car has a liter less displacment which is lot in the world of turbo's. I would bet that on the 3B, it would be a lot closer. Regardless, that GT42 still has a lot left in it...not a good turbo for that application.
My honest opinion is that if you want that much power, it might be best to look elsewhere. I just imagine the car being a dog with a turbo that big, and it seems thats what you need to get the 800hp that everyone is after. Supra? Skyline? Seems to me that you could save yourself some money and buy one of those and have more power, and still keep your 3B to beat up some kids with, and use the Skyline or Supra to get your fix for power!
This was just a comparison at 26psi on both turbos. The turbos are far from maxed out. The gt42r equiped car went on to lay down 830whp and run a 9.59@155mph in the quater mile. These aren't the guys daily drivers, and even if they where its not an issue. You have stock power until 6500rpm.
At least in Sweden/Norway/Finland/Denmark, Audi engines with roughly 800hp has been used for at least a couple of years. 1000hp, now that's a real challange.
Any more info on those Henka?

Maybe not relevant but I watched this video recently, this car is putting down in excess of 800awhp http://media.ams-evo8.com/AMSEVO808.wmv. What I want to see is the GT42R in a 3.2l 24v vw/audi engine. The cc and flow is just about right to give some good results with the spooling time and power that this turbo offers. If Im not mistaken the fastest fwd VW is the VR6 12v running this turbo. It would make a killer street/strip setup
The MLR were recently invited to Norris Designs for an exclusive preview of their new demo car. There will be a full write up including an in-depth interview with Simon Norris in the next edition of Wastegate Chatter out on 1st October, but here's a brief rundown of the car and some pictures as...
this one makes 841 HP (race fuel)

as for the choosing turbo, I would determine what hp I want, and chose compressor wheel size, them add enough room to turbine not to create back pressure, it is that simple, no reason to tinker around maps and ar figures that are far from compareable numbers between turbos.
It allways amaze me how people can watch those maps and deside "that will spool 800rpm before that"
1) people thinks that spools is what? the max pressure point? or point when boost is began to generate.
2) than one fact that someone can say 1.8-2.3 is same spool time, my ***, if one could make 2.0 4cyl and 2.0 6 syl they will spool different, or to succest that half an litre of displacement don't matter.
3) how many valves there are? 2 valve engines makes usually more torgue at low rews
but needs much more air and fuel to make same horses as multivalve engine
4) cams
5) compratio
6) how far are you from sealevel
7) the list goes on.
One thing is constant, 48mm of diameter in compressor wheel is same 48mm in any brand of turbo.
Some have better models of wheel wings(?) than other, so it is not so easy and black&white but hellava lot less variables than comparing flow maps.
Well, this is a fun thread to read. Just to reassure everyone, I'm still holding down the lower end of the scale. My beastly k24 is pumping 12 lbs of boost and putting down some serious 220 hp! So step off!
Agree with you ANLE............ there was a link in Australia that have the maps and a program that mix all the data to put the points of your engine over the maps
The problem, its that also need the Volumetric efficiency of our engines......... i dont have that data......
cheers

No way dude! I'm getting only 0.4 bar of boost on my coupe, which as I suppose gives me something like 150 horses ... . No without MAF it's even worse. So the lower end for turbo power 20vt is mine !
However soldier who is not dreaming about becoming general is bad soldier . I like this thead about mega turbos and insane powers

P.S. Cruise ship audi 200 is putting same beastly 220hp

did not audi, audi have a car in the 1980s that produced 1000hp?? think there was a pic of it here on the forum once, 5cyl.
Some weird car looked like a rocket..
the sylinderTHICKNES are about 6,2-6,3mm on 3b block (petrolunits,) and 6,1-6,2 on the dieselunits; so the big bore are possible(83,or even 84 are possible)
and if you have the dieselcranc exentermilled to 97mm stroke(tapdiameter only 46mm,like 2,1liter) you have the bigger ccm, ( have made the spec tool for that, to meshure the thicknes in the sylinderwall) THE VOLVOS REDBLOCK: 2,3liter have only 3,3mm thickness
i will use the garret gt 4082 in daili driving....i hope the 600+hp
and no motronic,and no distributor....!!
