    Advice on a 2.3 10V?

Sorry guys I know its not a S2 but!! I’ve recently acquired a 100 avant 2.3 10v and it seems gutless? It’s obviously no S2 but it revs flat? But feels like it would be just as quick with a caravan on the back though? Is this just a 10v characteristic or should they pull a bit more? Just wondering if there any adjustment that may be needed on the heath Robinson injection system with the big air flap?

No thats normal, there a bit underpowered really theres just too much weight. The 200bhp MC turbos may well be alright, but theres a RR 280bhp lump in mine which moves along very nicely.

Wrong, Spink. The MC (10V turbo) fitted to the 100 turbo / quattro made 165PS. The WJ (10V turbo) fitted to the early 200 turbo made 170PS, lacking an intercooler. The KG (10V turbo) fitted to the 200 turbo / quattro from '84 - '87 made 182PS. The 2B (10V turbo) fitted to the 200 turbo FWD from '87 - 90 made 190PS. The 200PS version was only fitted to the 200 quattro from '87 - '90, 1B (10V turbo).

I wasn't being patronising, Spink! Hope I didn't convey the wrong impression.

I remember that gold 100 @ CC! Quite impressive! I've just fixed a microswitch on the throttle linkage that now clicks when the second choke opens? the lever on the switch was missing before. Not got a clue what it does but it should now work anyway?
                Thanks Guys!

Glen is this a turbo quattro avant? Or normally aspirated?

                  I've got an 89 100TQ Avant.

Trick with the 10 valvers is to short shift, they really dont rev like a 20v at all. In fact getting out of either of the 10valvers, 100 or ur, into the S2 it always seems slow untill you get used to revving it again..

If it's a turbo there are things that can be done to get a bit more boost

Boost is the new rock and roll!

NA not Turbo unfortunatley? although i do have a spare k24 of my s2!!!!!!!!!! Maybe just maybe! I wasn't seriously thinking of turbocharging it sounds like lots of hassle!

If i could afford the 2nd insurane then i'd keep it for a run arround to keep the miles of the S2 and to tow my trailer with the jeep on! Cos its seems to have loads of balls right at the bottom of the rev range twice that of the S2 @ 1000rpm! Any tips and info is greatfully recived cos i dont know much about these engines?????

Glen. I had a 2.3 90Q for 60K miles. Engine code NG. Some suggestions :- 1) Check the Lambda probe and replace if over 60 - 70 K miles old. 2) Replace the HT leads, cap and rotor - even if they look OK. 3) Change the air filter (its a bitch ) 4) Check the exhaust for leaks - torque goes away if there are any. 5) Check all fuses in fuse box. 6) Check the idle and WOT switches. 7) Check differential pressure regulator. 8) (like turbo cars) check vacuum piping off IM. 9) Run some injector cleaner through it with Optimax.
                      10) Depending on age, you could bypass the cat to ensure exhaust working properly. 11) Plugs - use Bosch W7DTC only.

Having done all that, the ignition timing IS adjustable. Factory setting (I think) is 18deg. My car ran much better on 12 deg ( 95 or 98 ron petrol ). You must bridge the FP relay to see the correct timing. ( Haynes covers this in the 80/90/coupe manual). Let us know how you get on. Cheers James

Option on a 2.2 turbo lump?

I may have a chance to get a 2.2 10v Turbo out of a 200 quattro MY1990 (i think thats what it was?) Would this be more trouble than its worth?

Q1: Do they share the same bottom ends?

Q2: How would i fuel the turbo unit? Could i adapt the current injection system? (Option just on engine no longer in car!, so no other bits to nick apart from whats already bolted to the engine?)

Any other info on this is more than welcome! I have sold the car but the buyer has asked me on this option?
