7a intake cam and bigger turbo
Stuck at 400bhp any ideas ?

I'm going on the rollers again in 2 weeks, then if necessary I can check exhaust temp/backpressure ! Should have do it last time. Unfortunately my motec is not set up for those as standard.
I just want to know whether I am barking up the wrong tree with this turbo hopefully will be getting specs today.
Or is there something else I've over looked ?Attached FilesComment

It doesn't look that big? Looks like an RS2 turbo to me...
None the less, Mihnea can help you out. To bad you heave Motec, cause Mihnea is the Motronicman

Well you have the ingredients for 500 HP. Except the turbo, I think your stuck on your turbo! Get a big mofo and shoot for 500 + hp. And get MRC tuning involved in the game.Comment

Cams on the other hand, i'm running an rs2 exhaust cam and standard rs2/aby inlet cam, is this the right chioce will that restrict it to 400bhp ? The engine pulls very hard to the redline 7500 and full boost is @ 3700. Max power 6530.
Not sure about the turbo trying to get full spec from vendor. Even the if it was the smallest spec K27 I would have thought it would give more than 400bhp ?
Nah - its not that simple - The KKK numbering system is almost useless. 400bhp may indeed be the limit on that turbo. If you have the correct part number for the compressor section of the turbo I can check the flow characteristics on its compressor map to see what it is capable of but don't expect any miracles.
If you are looking for more power then you have these routes to try -
- Get more air into the engine (with a bigger turbo, more boost or bigger camshafts)
- Get colder air into the engine (with a more efficient intercooler or turbo)
- Get more revs out of the engine (lightened bottom end)
- Optimise the boost, timing and fuelling with proper experts and instruments
Have you measured intake air temperatures - you *might* be at the efficiency limit on your turbo or intercooler ? This is particularly possible when running high boost at high engine rpm attempting to raise power.
Does MOTEC have knock sensors - do you know how aggressive the ignition timing is - how do you know where the knock limit is ?
What EGT or AFR are you seeing at full load ?
If it was me, I'd lighten the bottom end by at least getting rid of the DM flywheel - further crankshaft lightening, motorsport spec pistons and dynamic balancing (by proper experts) will increase benefits in free revving ability. Then I'd go with the inlet camshaft from a 7A engine. Most importantly I would get rid of the jurassic turbo in favour of something like a Garrett GT35/40R or bigger. When all properly programmed you should be pumping 500bhp if you wish.

The air filter in picture seems to be kind of small, restricting and you are letting hot air near the exmanifold to enter to airfilter.Originally posted by aby1I'm going on the rollers again in 2 weeks, then if necessary I can check exhaust temp/backpressure ! How much total ignition advance in degrees at 5000, 6000, 7000 ?
Measure the flow area intake entry diameter to turbo behind the air filter.
(In comparison the rs2 turbo dimenion is ~48mm and exit ~54mm )
Turbo can be at it´s limit if measured size ~50mm to 52mm.
The ex temp measurement is a must to have with big power and motec or other pc EFI.Comment

I am thinking along the lines of the cold plumbing next rolling road session I will remove the filter.
Turbo in ~60mm turbo out 70mm.
Yes need to get set up for exhaust gas temp.
I'll get back to you on ing adv
I am thinking, increase size of cold pipe work from 2.5in-3in.
I already have rs2 ex cam, may be 7a Inlet cam require ? (Not 50+hp improvement tho !)Comment

where have you mounted the intercooler?Originally posted by aby1Sorry forgot to add I'm running s2 running gear ABY motor in ur quattro.Nautic Blue UR-Quattro RS2spec ABY20v kkk26/27 hybrid,Bremsport Brake Kit n some other Gubbins.water injection. Mihnea tuned Management

It is mounted in the original place, about twice as big as standard. 90mm thick core longer and deeper, it sits lower than the front spoiler by about 50mm (not ideal !) however the car is raised slightly sitting on stiff platforms.
Next evolution will be front mount as per the A2 with bulged front grill.Comment

so your intercooler is in the sameplace as mine and a similar size .you really need a front mount IC. is yours a dialynx 1 like mine by any chance??
if so that is what is probably holding you back i'm suprised you got 400bhp if thats the case.Nautic Blue UR-Quattro RS2spec ABY20v kkk26/27 hybrid,Bremsport Brake Kit n some other Gubbins.water injection. Mihnea tuned Management
