    Update.

New plugs removed after approx 300 miles and look OK but no visible deposits on insulators or signs of overheating. Re gapped to 0.7mm and reinstalled. Car still going best ever and has started quicker in the recent cold weather. I am sticking with them ( NGKs) but will try Bosch F6DTCs if I can source easily.

      Agreed.

I do however find, like some others have commented , that the standard plugs do not last as long as Audi recommend.

        Final update...on this topic

Well they lasted about 1000 miles. My "limp home" issues have been resolved by ECU reset and new set of F5DPORs....Good luck to all you posters who are using non standard plugs in your S2s. I was expecting short plug life - but not this short! Apart from the acute limp home incident, the motor also became flatter and less responsive over time - the plugs looked fine, but obviously something was wrong.

Well that doesn't sound great for me! I've just spent £50 on a set of Denso Iridium plugs!! Not fitted them yet but I'll keep you all posted. I'm sure I've heard about people using different branded plugs before with no issues! We'll soon see!
