When your engine is balanced complete, parts should be balanced independently ie. so you can replace the flywheel, and just have the new fly/clutch assembly balanced. I suspect it depends on your balancer.

A couple of grams out may not be much, but at 7,000+ rpm will be an issue! The manufacturer should be able to tell you what tolerance the flywheel is balanced to from the factory, personally for the relatively small cost I'd get it looked at.

Here's an old one for you..

Back in the 50s MG did alot of testing with balancing and unbalanced engines.

They ran the engines side by side on dynos. One engine balanced perfectly one not balenced, just assembled with components out of the parts bin.

both ran for weeks at 6000 rpm. they then stripped them and compared ware. NO difference between them. Then they were put back together and run on the dynos again, this time increasing the rpm until they went pop.
The difference between them blowing up was 50rpm!!!

Keep in mind these were old long stroke three bearing engines,

Just a test I read. I still get my engines balanced but don't worry about changing a flywheel here and there!

Just got my 034 from Javad, it looks good! Won't be fitting it for a month or so but it looks nice above my fireplace. I will be getting it balanced with the crank. I wouldn't think it is a must, but certainly worth while

I would've thought the balance to be neutral on these flywheels how much balancing is up to that dual mass crap though

Great mod pick up is fantastic now and theres a huge bit of extra pull in first gear especially at the top end. Just the balancing issue makes me uneasy still.

plus, if your second gear synchro isn't up to much (like mine ) it helps speed up your gear changes a bit.
