    Experiences with alu-flywheel ??

Have been thinking of buying an aluminium flywheel for my 92 mod. S4 saloon. Anyone in here who drives with one ?? 034 Motorsport sells some pretty neat flywheels.

Bought 2 of them but for 10v applications. I can state though that the quality is absolutely fantastic.
I feel it is a shame to hide them.

Not ran either engine yet so no real BTDT but the theory is to lessen the rotational mass and improve pickup, downside will be a slightly rougher idle but that can be dialled out a tad as I have also got the standalone engine management.

I had one on my past 94 S4 using a centerforce unsprung clutch and it was a little loud at idle (sounds like a penny rolling around in a metal bowl). The main thing I noticed was first and second gear felt quicker and revs would climb and fall alot faster when matching gears for downshifts. I have the same flywheel in the coupe and this time using a sprung clutch and it is much more quiet. All in all I would say its a worthwhile mod

I agree with what Elijah posts. Mine is no an 034EFI unit, nor do I think Elijah's was. Mine is made by JB Racing, Inc from Florida, USA, and I think his was as well. At idle, with the unsprung hub Centerforce clutch, I get a slight tick, but EASILLY matching revs in all gears and the power increase in first and a little in second is all worth it.

I too have bought one for 034. I am transplanting an S2 6 speeder into my UR quattro and needed a 3B flywheel to match the 'box. Decided to go for the ally option for improved response (as opposed to the weighty 3B unit). Doubled this up with a performance clutch and quick shift kit from them - all of which was comparatively good value.

              Will post results when done!

I believe Jeffer is able to supply these as well, drop him a PM as its likely to work out better than a US unit in terms of price with shipping etc.

I can get anything from Javad with a 10% discount if that helps? So effectively it is import duty free.

Some say you loose a bit of torque when fitting these aluminum f.wheels. Anyone sensed or got any numbers supporting this?
Personally I don't believe in this theory.

Isn't that the theory of more mass is more difficult to rotate but also more difficult to stop it from rotating?

yup. I guess if you where going uphill you one would have to keep the throttle, whilst having the original flywheel the inertia of it would "keep the engine going"

Will fitting a LW alu flywheel without getting the engine balanced do any damage??

I can't feel anything wrong with it now but it may be ever so slight and over time maybe it might cause excessive wear somewhere???
