I've just found a really good guide to installing the coilpacks from a 1.8T engine into an ABY or AAN on the s-cars website. I know this has been talked about on here before and has obvious advantages, £25 per coilpack being the main one and the fact that these coilpacks each have an integral POS, but are there any major disadvantages?? In the guide that I've seen, the new coilpacks are just clipped onto the sparkplugs and aren't bolted to the head like in other conversions I've seen. Is this ok? It certainly looks like a nice easy way of doing it! My other concern is that without the coilpack cover (won't fit over these coilpacks), won't there be trouble with dirt finding it's way down the sparkplug holes and possibly into the cylinders when the sparkplugs are removed for any reason? What do you reckon, is it worth the hassle or no???

Damn it, just spent 30 mins hunting and I can't find the link
I read the other day on an American forum that was talking about that run-through,
and it was mentioned that the cover would go back on if you were to use proper heat resistant wiring, so getting rid of all that heat protective shielding. Using these type of coilpacks meant that the fixing posts for the cover can remain in place.
I can't see any reason why the coil packs would come out whilst only being held in place by clipping onto the plugs. Famous last words though
My only concern (very small concern) would be the issue that Audi had with the recall of cars with those type of coilpacks, although I understand that's all sorted.Last edited by Jas11n; 26 January 2006, 01:56.2001 Avus Silver B5 RS4.

Thats a run-through on replacement of the standard ABY/ADU/AAN coilpacks Jon, Merlin is taking about retro-fitting the later S3 type coilpacks with built in power output stages.Originally posted by Jon441cc2001 Avus Silver B5 RS4.

IIRC, GSF sell then for around £50/60 each. I think those come with the wiring which you then splice into near the POS's.
Those in that thread you posted above by Marty are direct from Beru and don't come with wiring. I think
Sorry to Merlin for going off topic
In answer to Merlins question at the end of his post, Yes I think it's worthwhile, especially as we now have a complete guide on how it's done.
I just hope I don't have to do it for a while yet

Check also this out! For doing a 3b work without the distibutor!
I think for this you need also a AAN, ABY ECU!
