Well done mate!! How did you get on with it? Was it fairly straightforward and did you do anything different to how it is in that guide? Does the original coilpack cover go back on? Cheers!!

It took me about 6 hours in all , Some of the Ecu signal wires to (Cylinders 4,5) were a different colour to the guide i went by the numbers on the plug pinouts.
As Doug said there are No Fitting Issues with coilpack cover it went straight on.

i will get some pics @ the weekend

That's the guide I've been looking at! So apart from the wiring issue, was everything done exactly as stated in this guide, ie. Jetta tail lamp plugs etc.? Where did you buy the parts and were the part numbers in the guide correct? How much do you reckon it cost all in? Sorry to be a PITA but I'm gonna hav to do this conversion real soon and obviously I want to make sure it's as straightforward as possible!!

The guide is very good indeed
You might not have the wiring issue like i did as you have a S4 i found loads Coilpack connectors (4B0 973 724) on most VAG cars 1999 onwards when i went down to my local breakers/salvage-yard.

The Jetta/Vento taillamp plugs work perfect although you need to cable tie them in so they are secure in the plugs. i got the coilpacks from GSF (06B 905 115L).
                £19.50 each

all the wiring connections were soldered & double heatshrinked (no crimp connectors)

Total cost of parts was £142.28p i thought the heatshrink tubing was expensive though £8.99 for 5m x 4.8mm

I made that diagram for the conversion and I am currently about to install mine.

We were saying that the cover would create too much heat for the Power Output Stages because they're normally in open air. as far as i know, all the people who have done this in the US are running w/o the cover on.

                        1.8t Coil Pack conversion update

Gentlemen: My name is Dave F. (aka UrS4boy and Librarian on AudiWorld "Original S-cars" forum). I am the guy who developed and wrote up this conversion for my 93 AAN-engined S4. I didn't realize that you chaps had found the information and were using it. Good stuff. That's why I did the write up.

I thought I would say a couple of things:

                        1. Am Canadian not a Yank, thank you very much. ;>)

                        2. The best version of the write-up is the pdf on s-cars.org (the "post-nuke" link I saw in the thread somewhere): http://www.s-cars.org/postnuke/modul...download&cid=3

                        3. I found out last week that a better part for the female pins for that 4B0 973 724 coil pack connector housings are 000 979 141 not the 000 979 133A that I used in September 2005 and included in the parts list:
                        http://forums.audiworld.com/s4s6/msgs/107511.phtml

                        4. Personally, I am NOT running the "20V turbo" coil pack cover on my UrS4 because I have concerns about heat killing these little 1.8t 115L coil packs sooner rather than later. Just so you know.

Hope to hear about more successful conversions.

                        Dave F.

                            Problems with 1.8t conversion??

Not really. The biggest problem was melting the cheap black plastic wiring loom that I used initially to corral the wires. The "chrome'" stuff has been much better (so far).

If I was to do this again, I would try to run a common power wire with "T"s to the coil packs rather than five individual power wires. That would eliminate 4 wires from the bundle. I am already running common grounds (with soldered and heat shrunk "T"s) for the two grounds each coil pack has.

Incidently, the engine is equipped with RS2 exhaust manifold, RS2 turbo, green topped Bosch injectors, RS2 MAF, a front-mounted intercooler and MRC (Mihnea Cotet) software. I recently installed a clone MTM 1.8 bar wastegate spring. The car is unbelievable. Should be making 350 to 360 hp at the flywheel (28 psi max boost).

What wires and pins did you use?

It looks like you used 14 gauge wire (?) which couldn't hurt. What pins did you use? Loose pins into which you crimped/soldered the wires or the VAG pigtails?

Just curious. I used the connector covers that corral the wires as they come out of the connector. This causes some clearnance/ orientation issues that you avoided by deleting the connector covers.

                                Looks good.
