    fuel consumption

    Merry Christmas dear S2 fans.
I am new with the turbo 5 cylinder Audi. Earlier I had a 5 cylinder non turbo coupe, than a 2,8 V6 coupe quattro than came my recent 96 ABY S2. I knew it would not be a typically economy car but really, how much fuel is normal? Mine drinks 16-18 liters per 100 km in town (OK its winter now) and well over 10 on the long run when I am mild on the gaspedal. The Audi service computer shows one single message: fuel mixture production disturbance. The factory service booklet suggests: too high fuel pressure. Too low fuel pressure. Failed lambda sonda. Or air volume meter. Any suggestion about this problem?

Replace the lambda if over 60K and clean the Mass Air Flow sensor and plug.

My car has just done 140k now... how much are the lambda sensors? Might be worth taking a look / changing it

I paid £45 + Vat from a local bosch dealer.

You need to buy a genuine bosch one though!

        Audi No. 034 906 265
        Bosch No. 0258003957

Check numbers but i think there are right?

          MAF cleaning

          Glen,
I assume the MAF is a sensitive thing. What do we use to clean it? Someone wrote isopropilalkohol should do the job. It is sunday, and I might give it a try to soak the unit. Not that I have any IPA but I can get som from the lab. Or anything else?

          Thanks

            I made it.
I am grateful to all of you who helped in this matter. Glen, I finally managed to get IPAlkohol (actually from my own lab, I am a radiation oncologist doctor) and did the MAF cleaning. I also cleaned the contact plug of the unit and when it dried I assembled the whole thing then I overtightened the MAF screw to the filterbox so it cracked a bit but no problem at the end, only that the IPalkohol went into my eyes and it hurt like hell but the computer shows now a drasticalli decreased fuel consumption level. There was no obvious dirt within the MAF but the inlet side metal filter grid was black......Thank you again. Ill get down to the brake thing now.
            Good night everybody
