It is all in the name of development. I cannot see any issues with the cover being fitted but then that is why I am trying to prove otherwise. As I prefer the look of the engine with the cover fitted.

If they are going to fail with the cover fitted then it will show up sooner rather than later as the mileage the S6 does on a daily basis will highlight any issues.

The coil cover might fit on/over the 1.8t 115 L (or 115N) coil packs BUT (and its a big BUTT), those little coil packs were never designed to run inside an oven with the OE coil pack cover sealing the heat in. Running the "20vTurbo'" coil pack cover will kill the 1.8t coil packs sooner rather than later.

An American chap ran the coil cover against my advice and killed two 1.8t coil packs in short order (two or three weeks IIRC).

But, hey, if you want to further science, please do so and report back (after one of them fails).

And if one does then I will report my findings. I would rather waste my money than a customer's.
Until you try how will you learn? Just because YOU say is not good enough for me, OK?

Just out of interest Corey, how long had 034 tested this conversion for before they decided to market it?

I'll be watching this one with interest...

IF - I'll say it again - IF there is a thermal issue with the cover fitted, then surely it wouldn't be the hardest thing in the world drill some holes or vents in it. Trick being to let out heat but still keep out dirt.

My car has been rapid since i changed to 115L coilpacks but
after 3 days (200miles) with the coilpack cover on the engine would cut-out
for about a second then come on again intermittently
happened @ idle aswell ... the car would switch its self off .
i change the coilpacks for new ones & its was fine agian .. no cutout
I've been running mine for 2 months now

as dave F said (UrS4boy) the POS's suffer if the cover is on ... it must be like
              an oven under there

Will the problems ever stop :frustrated: :frustrated: :frustrated: I have been running my S2 aby avant on 1.8t coilpacks for just over 2 months now without any problems, but yesterday morning i started the car and let it idle ready for work and a minute later the engine just stopped, so i...

TBH I don't know but I will ask the question but based on observations from others using these coils I would say that their longevity is not an issue (but it is still up in the air about the coil pack cover) I need to destroy mine to see.

I am very impressed with the quality of the wiring loom but care neds to be taken when dissassembling the original wiring loom with the connectors on the bulkhead (not the POS wiring) as it would be very easy to plug the wrong plugs together.
Identify the 2 plugs on the original, 1 has 2 wires the other has 3 wires, the new loom has plugs with 2 pins and 3 pins. Make sure these are matched up.

034efi coil pack testing (or not)

Corey: I am guessing you are a 034efi distributor (?). As far as I know, 034efi did NOT do any extensive testing of their "kit". I believe (but I could be wrong), they just developed the harness (based, in part, on my DIY instructions) and marketted the "kit" on the basis of the reports that I and others have posted on AudiWorld and Audifans since Sept 2005 that it does work.

I now know that Dubmeister did something similar earlier in that Golf Mk 1 AAN quattro rocket but as far as I know nothing was ever written up by them. I had no knowledge of their work when I developed my conversion DIY instructions.

I will be pleased to hear how long the 1.8t 115L (or N) coil packs last under the cover. I understand that you can get replacements cheaply and you want to prove your point. Just be aware that you might be proving my point instead. ;>)

On the wiring issue - if 034efi followed my write up, they should have noted the colour of the wires from the ECU to the old POS that have to be swapped into the new connectors - and the order (left to right) that they need to be arranged. Its not rocket science but you do have to be able to follow a wiring diagram.

                        In my opinion.

                            Dubmeister coil pack conversion

Jon: Thanks for posting the photo. I have similar one. Your's is a bit bigger and better. Now I see that the 1.8 t coils that Dubmeister used were the older style 1998 vintage bolt-in units. I am not sure but I thought the bolt-in coil packs had external Power Output Stages (POSs) not internal POSs as in the newer style 1.8t, neu V8, 3.2VR6, etc. coil packs.

Am I right or wrong on that? (I have no idea, not owning any 1.8t cars).

You guess correctly, see www.quattronics.co.uk you may or may not be correct on the extensive testing, I do not know but they saw a gap in the market and met the demand for a "plug n play" kit. and took the oppurtunity

The wiring loom is very well made and there is no need to swap any wires as the looms are made with new plugs not old ones from a salvage yard.
