My after run pump is in 2 halves, lots of steam, brown water everywhere, my engine bay looks a right mess, it split where the impeller section joins the motor, I was really lucky I noticed it as I pulled in at home.. (and not in the middle of london or on the M25
So I need a new one I guess, I can't see how the unit was held together even, so anyone know how much? where from? and anyone got a spare one to sell??
Lol, yeah its disgusting.. but it gets worse, I bypassed the pump with a bit of copper pipe, refilled with water and ran up to temp to make sure there were no other leaks, unfortunately there were, the water pump is gone too, water pouring out of the cambelt cover
Mmm..
Bloody obsolesence!
It wouldn't be so bad if you could replace just the plastic bit!
The alternative would be the aux electric pump from the Transporter which is available from GSF etc. Initially this looks an improvement as the plastic is attached with screws. However in VAGs wisdom even that doesen't seem to be available as a seperate part!
do you know what has caused it all to go? not head gasket failure I hope?
Oh I hope not.. it looks like the after run pump has been going for a while, the top part is bonded on and there's signs of seepage before it let go. Not sure about the waterpump though as its not all that old.
Hi!
As I mentioned earlier, it is possible to use the aux pump from the T4 transporter. Steve H runs one methinks! It is of a different design but will do the job. I think that is actually the one that GSF lists as the proper one is a lot more expensive.
Someone listed recently about it being available as a washing machine part available from a Bosch repair shop!
