Anyone ever run into a 2234 fault code (3B motor)?

2234 (Blink Fault Code), VAG1551/2 Fault Code Number 00532 Supply Voltage Problem, ECU supply voltage too low or too high

This started showing up right after I upgraded to RS2 software. No real instructions I could find to diagnose and fix the problem. Anyone else ever pull this code? No running or drivability problems at all, just a constant CEL.

And what is the real voltage on ECU inputs, and on the battery ? Maybe removal of ECU has influenced for example ECU pin contact ?

Is ECU giving this error constantly, or it disappears after you read the codes with started engine (more voltage). As you know with engine not running voltage should be around 12v, and with engine started around 13.6-13.8v. If You get 10v and 15v somewhere nearby ECU - it should give you this error.

ErWin says that this error "might be stored if the engine is operated for a lengthy period at idling speed with a large number of electrical consumers running and the battery severely discharged"

I would clear the fault and see if it comes back.

I've cleared twice and it does come back. Battery and charging system are all up to snuff. Voltage gauge shows almost 14v with engine running.

How do you check the voltage on the ECU inputs?

            On a RS2 pin 18 is 12v+ and pin 14 is ground. See http://www.s2central.net/motronic_pinout_ABY.html

            On the 3B see http://www.s2central.net/motronic_pinout_3B.html

When you say you upgraded the software on your 3B to RS2, what does that mean?

Thanks. I had the stock 3B chips reprogrammed to match my RS2 turbo, EM, fuel injectors and MAF. Also upgraded from 2.0 bar PT to a 2.5 bar PT.

So what exactly is the method for checking the voltage at the ECU? I have a volt meter but I'm not sure of the test procedure.

Ehm, I've forgot, that not everyone has ecu loom directly available . I've simply checked on the opposite side of connectors where +12v comes to ECU power terminals, but however this may be not the your case. Sorry for confusing.

Yes, I can get to the loom no problem. What I need to know is how actually check the 12v feed at the connector to the ECU without frying anything! Do I check with ignition on? Do I insert the + lead of the multi-tester into the harness connector and the - to ground?
