How much should a catchtank catch?

I've had my catchtank fitted for a few months now but I'm finding that I need to empty it quite frequently. I've not worked it out exactly, although I emptied it today after less than two weeks since the last time and there was loads in there! Is this normal? It is using some oil but I had assumed that it was from something else like valve stem seals or turbo seals or something as it has always used a bit! Any thoughts? How often do others have to empty the catchtank?

might be worth reading the thread about the breather system and replacing your PCV valve and flame trap

All that has been binned as part of the catchtank conversion! Just done a search on the forum and it seems that other's have needed to empty the tanks quite often. Maybe a drain to sump is the way to go after all!?!

To be honest that would be the only way i'd do it, as i couldn't be doing with the hassle of emptying the catch tank.

Mark H, Doug_RS2 did it to great effect and have great pics on the forum (Don't ask S2Avant how he got on! )

Meaning what? My catchtank drains back into the sump through a custom adaptor in place of the sump plug.

Admittedly, I did have a fumoto drain valve but the POS fell to pieces and dumped all the oil under the car. Great for tailslides not great for the engine.

You do need to change the oil more often but mine is changed everytime it's in the garage so it only does 1000-2000 miles between oil changes.

Me neither, but then I don't particularly want to have to empty the catchtank every two weeks!

So what's the benefit of a catch tank again? It means you have to empty it every two weeks and change the oil every month? Sounds like those Fumoto sump valves are a bit shonky too, glad I didn't get one of those!

You know not of what you speak sir!

In S2Avant case there was a pipe connected to the end of the valve fulltime and the end of valve broke off dumping the oil. It wasn't designed for that use.

I have had one on my car for 2 years now and it saves me alot of hassle for oil changes.

The way I see it, all that oil in the catch tank would normally be going through the engine and being burnt, this can cause detonation.

I haven't fitted my tank yet because I'm not totally sure how to do it, what parts of the original to keep, I'm pretty sure I will keep the PCV valves though and just not have them plumbed straight to the MAF hose, yes? Also want to lose that little tiny plastic one-way valve that breaks and then the Cam cover gasket blows out..
