    Water Leak Woes!

Ive finally traced the source of the water leak that from needing a regular top up suddenly became a whole lot more serious over the weekend - with large quantities of steam shooting out from the front of the car . Finding where it was coming from was another matter as its virtually impossible to see clearly under the manifold!

The burst in the pipe is just visible (and I mean just visible!!) by squinting through the gap between the power steering pump and the inlet manifold - So it looks like the length of hose that comes off a metal pipe (think the one the heater matrix feed is connected to but I cant be sure) then goes into the block at the top front, as was originally suspect and is a common problem I think. Under pressure and with the car hot it’s squirting out coolant like thru a nozzle! Marvelous!

Problem is getting to the beggar to put it right!! Looks like its the most inaccessible bit of pipe on the whole engine to get to (well nearly!) I think I’ll have to move the power steering pump for sure, or even remove it to get near.

Any top tips on the best way to proceed guys!??

    Cheers

    Paul

    Thermostat hose has gone

Also replace the turbo hose and thermostat whilst doing this job

Better still get a set of Samco water hoses

Yep, this is a nightmare to get to. It's easiest to take the power steering pump off and get at it that way. Its also hard to get the new bit on as its so small and doesn't flex. Have fun

I found a technique to this, take the belt of the PAS pump and unbolt the pump it will swing out the way, i didnt want to disconnect the PAS pump and i had enough access.

Cheers guys – sounds like I got a fun time ahead! Was hoping I could move the pas pump without having to disconnect the whole thing! However, I do need to drain and refill the system to see if I can cure the warning light that I inherited, so could be an opportunity! And Ive also got aircon in there just in case it wasnt tight enough!

Good link to Mikes site Jamo - teach me to do me homework! Tho I'll bottle the thermostat replacement for now as the bolts could be a right mare and I feel a brown trouser moment at the thought of a new block! It would defo happen to me! Samco’s are defo on the shopping list but after spending all me pennies on big brakes they will have to wait, typically!

Nowt more embarrasin than the sight of an S2 with the bonnet up and steam pourin out

          cheers

You'd be better off doing the 'stat now while it's all in bits as you'll only need to go back in and replace it anyway at some later point...

Trust me you need to do the stat now it's a job you dont want to repeat!

I did mine without the rad there and 2nd time for the samco's for the turbo hose i did as i posted above, move the PAS pump but did not disconnect it.

You should be able to do the same move it but not disconnect it.
