    Advice Please

    Hi all

Just done an oil + oil filter change today. Once I'd done it got in the car and it seemed fine to start with but now there is smoke coming from the exhaust, lots of it as well.

Its really bad when I change from 1st to 2nd and the turbo doesn't feel like its working probably.

When I'm not moving and rev the car up there still is smoke but not as much as it is when its moving. I was hoping it just might be the old oil being pumped round the engine or I maybe I have over filled it. I need to check when the car had cooled down.

    Can anyone please help?

    Thanks

Did you "charge" the filter before you put it back on?

did you put any oil in the new oil fillter to avoid an air lock or slow uptake of the oil?

Yeah i filled the filter it to the top with oil. Just checked the oil level and it seems to be way over the maximum line.

But i don't understand I emptied the car completely with oil. And I placed 4 litres into it.

I thought the car is meant to take about 4 1/2 litres, so i decided to stop at 4 then check it.

If it is over filled will this cause any problems or do a damage to the car??

It's 4.5 l of oil and you dont need to fill the filter first, what oil and filter did you use?

You also changed a valve didnt you? could be more that related?

what viscosity of oil are you using i remember reading on here somewhere that somebody used thin oil on a service causing smoke as it weeps past the turbo seals

The oil was recommended on the forum.

It was Silkolene Pro S 10W-50

Didn't change the value in the end just the oil and filter

If the car was not smoking before the oil change, and the viscosity is the same...

I can only guess that either

a). Not all old oil was removed from car. Was it warmed up before draining?
                            or
b). When re filling, the car was overfilled with oil.....

Either way, at least this would explaing the smoking. I can't see any other logical
                            explanation.
                            RS2+ (now sold...)

Yep the car was nice and warm when i changed the oil.

It is showing that I have over filled it but I only put 4 litres in.

Not to sure what is going on there.

If I have over filled it what problems can this cause, will it do any damage??
