And don't forget, Newsh did all of that in the dark!
Problem?

If I remember correctly the quick fix of the altitude corrector just fooled it into thinking that there was a set altitude all the time, or something like that. Anyway, the altitude corrector is only about £40 direct from Bosch. But I'd probably check the other stuff first.'93 S4 Avant now back on the road complete with new shiny go faster bits.Comment

Will a fault with this sensor or with the POS produce a fault code? Would u agree my problem must be producing a fault code because after i reset the ECU it goes ok again until it happens again and goes into limp mode.3'' Longlife Exhaust, Koni Adjustables, H&R Springs, Full RS2 Setup with Mr Nugents RS2 Chips

Sounds like it should produce a code - if you can bear it, don't re-set it until you get up to mine tomorrow and we can pull any codes that might be logged. Do you have a 3B or an ABY?Ex S2 owner, now running around in an A4 Avant quattro...

Here's the thread with all the info, I've just tweeked mine to 1200 ohms it was at 998 which may have been making it boost too much, we'll see ..

Again thats out of my league
. I take it you have the same problem newsh as i have newsh? Does your get worse the hotter it gets? Really is getting to me i think i may just put it in to QST and let them sort it.

Mine seems to overboost sometimes, I was thinking its heat related, seems to do it less at night, always fixed by cleaning WGFV but not sure that works now, I can open the bonnet, look at everything, tug a few wires and reastart it and it goes fine, really annnoying. Sometimes it doesn't do it for weeks.

You may get a code, but I reckon it'll only tell you that the overboost protection has kicked in or that maximum boost pressure has been exceded. I don't think it will help you get any closer to solving the problem as no fault in the ignition system (coils or POS) will ever create a code. That's why it's always so hard to find missfires and alike!
Sounds like your best bet may be to start switching parts from a healthy car, but that may only help if the fault is happening all the time. Try MAF and POS first and probably the altitude corrector as well.

I'm 90% sure the tweek to the altitude sensor has improved the running of my car, however it was colder tonight. What I did notice whilst tweeking was that sometimes I could just touch the moving part and get a completely erroneous reading, like there was some dirt on the potentiometer track, after moving it up and down a few times it settled and then I was able to adjust it with small pliers to read the 1200ohms. I may go in there again and give it a squirt of this Caig pot conditioner I have.

Steve's got some strange-looking "extra" wiring going on in the engine bay. Plus there are some wires running in to the front of the block by the front injector where the insulation has completely gone. Could be related?
Steve, can you take some pictures of those odd wires on here maybe people can have a think as to what they might be?
Steve's also got some "interesting" extra switches in the car - two on the driver's side door, and two on the centre console in front of the diff lock switch. Very odd!
Couldn't pull any fault codes last night off VAGCOM my laptop went kaput.
Also wonder if this couldn't be a symptom of the dreaded intercooler o-ring? Steve's not had the MarkH mod, could that be enough to trigger overboost when it gets hotter and the turbo's working hard?Ex S2 owner, now running around in an A4 Avant quattro...
