I think even only power and torque figures on NA engine could already give a good indication about VE. Given fuel mixtures and ignition advance are correct, output produced is definitly proportional to intake charge.

But problem could be intake, camshafts, exhaust. those parts can make some big difference in VE! You definitly need to run a completely identical setup in NA form to have the right value.
