  • Torque for Cam Pulley Nut

What are the torque settings for tightening the cam pulley nut - something like 150Nm + 180degree turn?

I have the actual torque setting but need to know the alternative way.

I have an industrial 3/4 drive torque driver but it needs to be calibrated at work - or by other means - as it doesn't have settings on it - just adjustment.

I can't see the info there Paul - 450Nm - but what is the lower torque - where you do an additional 180degree turn?

        Thanks

Doug, do you mean the cam pulley or the crank pulley?
coz the cam pulley is only 67Nm

            I meant the crank pulley - the 450Nm one - 27mm bolt.

Any confirmation on it being 150Nm + 180 degrees?

                Here you go Doug

                Nicked from Phil Paynes site..

                http://www.isham-research.com/quattro/torque.html

The value for the harmonic balancer (crankshaft pulley) bolt is the true value at the bolt. Other values apply if Audi's #2079 service tool is used. Alternative techniques have been documented by Audi - the 09/93 workshop manual for the ABY engine specifies 200Nm + 180° and the 10/93 Technical Service Bulletin for the ABY and AAN engines specifies 150Nm + 180°. The crankshaft should be locked with Audi's #2084 service tool - this can be bought from any dealership. Under no circumstances should the transmission (gears/brake) be used to hold the crank stationary.

Cheers John - 150Nm + 180 degrees it is then - although we'll see if the locking tool is upto the job - since Lee couldn't get his that tight.

My home made crank locking tool was up to it. My breaker bar wasn't and it snapped after about 120degrees or so (after the 150Nm). Hard to tell really because it was bending so much under the pressure!!:eek2:

Doug, I am surprised your old one came out so easily. I will replace my bolt and torque it properly when I have found a decent breaker bar (for decent money). Work used to have a 60% discount on Snap-on but our rep retired so am not sure if the discount still applies.

Just superglue the pulley on Doug, or use some gaffa tape and cable ties. Works for me!! LOL

I think the proper torque is.......
