  • tighten torque setting?

    Does anybody know how much to torque up the camshast caps? for the 3B

        The caps only go on one way round and there is a specific order to tighten them up.

        How close are you to running your car Habib?
        S2,RS2,S4 WB,RS4,S4 B8,RS6 C5,RS6 C6,R8

          Just remember to oil the threads and nuts

            Paul - why do you oil the threads? surely ths will mean the torque applied will be different if done dry?

            I know you said to oil the head bolts as well but the audi manual states all oil should be removed :confused:
            S2,RS2,S4 WB,RS4,S4 B8,RS6 C5,RS6 C6,R8

              Doug, you need to oil the threads so that a greater clamping force can be achieved for a given torque. If you don't do this then some of the torque applied will only be used for overcoming the friction which exists due to a lack of lubricant between the nut and stud thread.

                Does the Audi manual state that you should stick a monster turbo on to your engine and tune it to over 400 BHP ?

                    Yes, lubricated parts will apply more force when tightened to the same torque as dry parts. The engineers also know this and torques given are to be applied to dry fasteners.
                    'Wet torque' will be specified if required. Otherwise torque it dry.
