Just remember to oil the threads and nuts

Paul - why do you oil the threads? surely ths will mean the torque applied will be different if done dry?
I know you said to oil the head bolts as well but the audi manual states all oil should be removed :confused:S2,RS2,S4 WB,RS4,S4 B8,RS6 C5,RS6 C6,R8Comment

Doug, you need to oil the threads so that a greater clamping force can be achieved for a given torque. If you don't do this then some of the torque applied will only be used for overcoming the friction which exists due to a lack of lubricant between the nut and stud thread.Originally posted by Doug_RS2

Does the Audi manual state that you should stick a monster turbo on to your engine and tune it to over 400 BHP ?Originally posted by Doug_RS2

Yes, lubricated parts will apply more force when tightened to the same torque as dry parts. The engineers also know this and torques given are to be applied to dry fasteners.Originally posted by Audi Parts Guru

'Wet torque' will be specified if required. Otherwise torque it dry.
