What is this, and what does it do?

Sorry about the diffuse thread title, it's all i could come up with.

    So what is this?

I'm guessing it's some sort of engine-grounding unit?
Seems one of the terminals on mine has snapped and the other two are rusting to bits.
Anyone done any work on this unit?

It's located just in front of the left hand wheel BTW.

I think it is for the Radiator Fan Stages. I had also a cut cable in Mine The cable at the back.

So that might be the reason to why my fan doesn't turn on until 100 degrees?

Yip, definitely the radiator fan speed control resistors. I had one of mine broken off and it would skip the medium speed and only come on in turbo boost mode at 120deg. It's quite a woosh and draws so much current the car would almost stall at idle. Reconnected and now I have all three speeds again.
