I am looking for a 92.8mm stroke 5 cylinder crank. I can not find one offered in the united states, but know there are several uk firms that offer this item. Is this a factory crank, or a modified/custom piece? If it is factory, does anyone know what its from? I was guessing a vanagon or eurovan, but it looks like they run the 95mm stroke with 144mm conrods. You have to love how they desinged all their motors to use piston and rod designs they already had.
Thanks
Hans
I don't know of a 92.8 stroke stock 5 cyl crank. Then again, I am not familiar woth all flavours that were offered from the factory. I recently priced up a custom steel crank but the cost can be very prohibitive unless you can get 5 or 10 like minded souls and then there are some major cost savings possible. Even with discount, a decent steel crank will still run into a few thousand pounds per item. Good for 10k rpm though and SERIOUS torque even at high revs. Maybe not what you are after!!

This is called common sense if you are into maximising profits; even if you are manufacturing high volumes. Since you have to amortise your [high] one-off tooling and development costs over your entire production run, the more identical units you can produce, the smaller the portion of non-recurring engineering charges you apply to each unit. This is achieved my maximising commonality across as many units as you can, hence maximising profit.

The reason i ask, is that eurospec here in the states used to sell a stroker kit with the 92.8 stroke, like the 4 banger motors. above the stroker description it said
Which lead me to believe that there may be some bizzare 5 banger with the crank i want. Apart from the crank apearing on eurospecs crank page, I found this Link while researching. It seems as though this UK firm has used this stroke for 20v purposes.
A quick search has yielded a few 92.8mm cranks: 3A, 9A and ABA. These are all 4 cylinder 2.0 litre VW engines. I'll keep searching for it in 5 cylinder quise because I am curious now. Actually, the 3A is a 2.0, 8v engine from the Audi 4000 and some late '80s Audi 80 models.

I take it you were looking at part number 034 105 101 J about half way down the page.
It's described as a Forged 92.8mm 5 cyl 2.5 crank, but the part number does not appear on the latest version of ETKA. If I have time at work I'll see what I can find out about that number for you.

I found that too. It seems to be a very popular stroke length. It seems possible that there could be some bizzare version of a vanagon, or eurovan, based on that stroke. Seeing the sucess of the 4 bangers with these specs, (82.5 bore, 92.8 stroke) I think it could be a very viable source for 20v power.

I have just found a 92.8 crank used in a 2.5 litre 10 valve engine. Was this a factory capacity for the petrol engine I wonder?!? Could have been a stroker though.

Whilst the search is on...what about the 82.5mm block? What is that from? Is it a bored out 81mm block? This sounds nice with stock crank geometry for a high revving larger capacity motor.

If you mean the one that I noticed on the Web in a 10 valve, no. It was part of an engine but it was cagey on details. Lost the link now so will look again for you if I can remember the search combo...I tried loads! Martyn or Paul from VAGparts can price one if there's a part number!

Going to 2,309cc won't increase power. I used a 7A block a couple of years ago, power was similar to stock S2 3B, torque was similar also, just approx. 200 RPM lower down.
