    AFAIK there is a problem with autronic standalone with 5 seperate coils. It work's ok with 3B but not with AAN, ABY, ADU.

    Where did You get the info that autronic will work with no prblems with AAN engine ??

      They sell a matching distributerless iginition system that interfaces with the autronic. I will probably not run the stock coil packs. When coupled to the autronic it privedes full tuning capabilties with inteligent ignition control for things like traction control, like i will need that option

            Hi Pisobiker,

            Here are a couple of con-rod companies who have a very good reputation.

            I assume that I could use the 2.5? litre Turbo diesel block rebored with 7A pistons to make 2.6 litre?

            Would I have to deck the block to raise the C/R to suit the N/A 20V 7A engine for my car?

            I want Torque not revs.

              David, AFAIK you can use both the AAT and the AEL 2.5L turbodiesel blocks and crankshafts which are the same (I checked my one and found out it is a AAT).
              If I did not missunderstand you're planning to make a NA "stroker", not a turbocharged one, do you?
              As I have previously written, using the 3B-ABY-ADU standard pistons with 156mm conrod (well, actually from my mesurements is 155.9mm, but difference is really small) you will have ~10.03:1 CR. I think with the good 20V head combustion chamber design you could go as high as 11:1 CR but then you should use pistons with specifically designed rings and ring grooves to take advantage of the raised CR. Otherwise you'll just going to increase the blow-by. On a NA engine piston strenght requirements will also be much lower, therefore pistons will be lighter.

              You mentioned the 7A pistons which I do not know. If you give me some infos on them and 7A engine (I suppose you have that one) I can do some math for you:

              Bore;
              Stroke;
              Piston compression hight (distance between pin center to piston crown);
              Piston hight at TDC (compared to top of cylinders, without head gasket);
              Conrod center to center lenght;
              Original 7A CR.

                OK, i am building my bottom end out of a 2.5 petrol engine. Is there a way to install oil sprayers? It also has the 159mm rods with the 95.5 stroke factorory.

                  Thanks Marco,

                  You post some great threads on this forum, I enjoy reading them.

                  I do not have an S2 but a Coupe Quattro 20V (7A) engine. The car has only done 23K miles. I would like to think about a Stroker and was wondering about a 2.6 litre nopn turbo conversion. I think that I have about 150K of life on the current engine yet.

                  I also have a spare engine 40K.

                  I will look into this more.

                  I was hoping to use standard 7A pistons in a 2.5 block. I want simplicity and reliability as it will be my daily driver.
                  David.

                    David, to get 2.6L, you'll need the AEL block and crank (95.5mm stroke) combined with 83mm pistons to give 2,583cc. Using a 82.5mm bore (same as your current 7A) will give you 2,553cc.

                      No problem David, and thanks for the appreciation.
                      If you find out those infos we can make some hypotesis about CR.

                      Only thing I would point out is this mod. will probably increase your torque of some 12-13% and lower it a bit in the rpm. On a NA engine this gain is actually not so big, so I would suggest you carefully check cost-to-benefit ratios before starting with such a project.

                        Mb, I don't think it is possible to install oil sprayer jets in a block which does not have them as standard. If the oil gallery is present, it MAY be possible, but will involve a lot of machining. Has anyone ever done this?

                          Hans, could you post some pictures of the conrods? Do you have any chance of comparing them with a OEM 3B/ABY/AAN conrod?
                          Lenght sounds good, even better than my 155.9 option (you will need different custom pistons specs than mine), but if the petrol engine is a NA unit I would carefully check for conrod strenght.

                            I am getting arrow rods, so i wasn't actually going to use the stock rods. I can get pics, but it will take a while. I am wondering if the block i will be using is the right one. While everything else seems good, i am worried about not having oil cooling for the pistons.

                              Vag, do you have any extra 2.5 tdi ael blocks for sale? I think i may ditch this block for my turbo, and turn it into an na monster. I think i should have the oil sprayers. Would you ship to the US?
                              Thanks

                                Howley racing used to machine Metro Turbo blocks to take oil sprayers. The Group A engines they built for austin Rover in the racing metros developed
                                214bhp AND 198 lb/FT Torque from a 1215 cc metro engine. It used a Garret Air Research T3 turbo with modified Saab Turbo Coldside.

                                They drilled and tapped the block to take grub screws which were drilled .7mm when locked in the block they acted as sprayers.

                                I heard about a race where the newly launched Ford Datapost Ford RS Turbo team said they would wipe the floor with everyone. The metros had lapped the Fords after 6 laps....
