prob get some big replies on this one which will have to decipher but quite interested to find out.

Looking more at useable power without lots of lag, mid range punch with decent top end. not just a 1/4 racer's setup
Bit of a dilemma with that one, because the hybrid sounds like a very good compromise of top end and when the power comes in, but then ive goto think about if i will want more power after you get use to whatever upgrade is done

Do any of the oil pipes etc have to be changed when installing the RS2 turbo or is it a straight swap?

Umm, I think I've said it before but maybe not in this thread or maybe not publicly, the RS2 turbo is a real straight swap, although you might want to consider upgrading the intercooler at the same time, as well as the head gasket and the rod bearings if your engine already has a quite high mileage.... I forgot to mention that yesterday for 3B users....

@Rob & ZR, I'd recommend preventative replacement of the rod bearings but it's not absolutely mandatory...

@Ant, the biggest problem and unknown factor for me in your car is the NOS, and I for one won't ever touch the ECU on a NOS-ed car.... too many variables, when I tune a car I like to check everything and to do my work in order to be able to tell the customer (though without providing him with an actual warranty) that nothing will break given the work I've done on the ECU and what I've checked during the tuning.
On a NOS-ed car it's simply impossible for me to know if one day you'll be hitting the overboost at the same time as injecting twice the normal NOS dose, hence possibly causing engine damage and this is why I won't even ever try to tune a NOS S2, apart from my own personal considerations of NOS not being an "elegant" way of increasing HP.

                      Cheers,

Mihnea - how important are the camshafts and air intake/airbox to change when converting an S2 to RS2?

Hopefully early next year I'll be at the stage where I can join in all group purchases and get eveything done to convert my car into 380bhp (ish).

                        So, to make sure, what will i need? The car is (from what I can remember - haven't seen it for a few weeks) 86,000 miles, so what is missing from;

                        RS2 crossmember and intercooler
                        RS2 Exhaust manifold and Turbo
                        RS2 injectors
                        RS2 fuel regulator/pump
                        ECU remap

Will it need an RS2 exhaust cam for the full power?

Has anyone done all this, and what sort of cost you looking at (including labour charges if possible - usually too busy working to 'get my hands dirty' - though if you fully knew what I did, you'd think working on a car was 'clean' work for me!)

                        Paul
                        'The Bacofoil Express'...

                        No more.

Leon TDI 150 run in now.

                        Very slow.

                        Needs a chip.

Paul, here are the answers to your questions:

The RS2 airbox brings 3 additional HP compared to the original ABY, IMHO little bang for the buck (or the quid ).
The exhaust camshaft brings a little more oomph at the top end and slightly better driveability at part throttle/off boost.

The RS2 crossmember is a stupid upgrade because the original ABY crossmember can be upgraded in order to have the RS2 IC fit, just a welder is needed and good welding skills (which I unfortunately lack ).

                          -RS2 turbo : necessary
-exhaust manifold: not mandatory, worth 4 HP on such a setup.
-RS2 injectors: not mandatory, I can get better (higher flow) for cheaper.
-RS2 fuel pump: IMHO a good upgrade, the fuel pressure regulator is commercial ********.
-RS2 exhaust cam: not mandatory, you can just as well use a 20v naturally aspirated exhaust cam, it has more lift and breathes a lot better at high RPM.

I don't have any labour quotes as that's the kind of work I wouldn't mind taking a weekend to perform myself.

The ECU remap is absolutely mandatory, preferrably custom in the car (on the road or on a rolling road) with all sensors to ensure the programming suits the installed hardware.

                          HTH,

Mihnea the NOS setup is a WET system, injecting fuel independant of the normal system, therefore there is no need to take in to account the NOS when re-mapping

The system is perfectly safe to use due to this as it can not lean out as the fuel is metered to the correct amount with the size jet of NOS that is injected.

I have spoken to other guys in the know about NOS in depth which is why i have opted to install it, its not something i just thought up overnight and threw in

I know you obviously know an awful lot about the engine etc but i'm not planning huge NOS install anyway, only 25 maybe 50 tops

then the rest as per usual with the bolt on bits

Mileage for me shouldnt be a problem, did a full engine rebuild 6 months ago

As far as remapping the ECU what sort of RR hours are needed to get this right? What ECU mods are required if any? (other than remapping the chip that is)

Anyone selling RS2 turbo and manifold for a 'reasonable' price?

                                Greg,

The ECU needs to have its MAP sensor swapped and I have them in stock, 2.5 or 3 Bar. I think that if the car is sorted perfectly with the turbo upgrades and that I don't need to chase boost leaks on the rollers, in a maximum of 2 hours it is sorted to the maximum it can do safely.

                                Cheers,
