im sure this has already been dealt with on a bigillion occasions but im intending on an oil change in the next couple of weeks & wanted to know what grade i should be using.
The car is an ABY & has done 128k - what grade should i use & what brand of oil should i use???
I use Millers oils have used both their fully synth 10/40 and 10/60, the 10/60 is a bit on the thick side so i now use the 10/40, just make sure you don't go to a 5/40 it's a bit thin or even worse a 0/40 like Mobil 1, use a genuine audi oil filter as well.
it is however very much pays your money and take your choice.
i used to have a 20valve quattro before my s2. it had done over 200k and the previous owner used SYNTA GOLD, it ran sweet as. When i bought my s2 i put some in and it freed the engine up so much i had to turn boost down. It really is worth it. GSF have it
Silkolene Pro S 10W-50 imoa is good stuff, i have done 2 changes since i brought the car some 8months just to give me peace of mind...... the 1st change after 1.500miles the oil still looked really good
But what do i know.... i am a chef so maybe i should be talking about olive oil and truffel oil
If no one minds this thread being resurrected - should we be using a fully synthetic oil?
When I called into GSF the other day, I enquired about the price of their oils (very good incidentally) and they were raving about both Synta Gold and Fuchs SuperSyn (both VW/Audi approved)
Past: S2 ABY coupe RS2 spec with lots of mods, S4 B5 saloon, RS6 C5 saloon, S8 D2 FL, RS4 B7 saloon, S4 B6 avant
I filled up with synta gold last week about 30quid GSF ,do get a little tappet noise on start up if not used for a few days.I was using MOBIL 1 15\50 without any probs.
Thought id try something differant
When i got my car first i changed the oil and used synta gold only thing was it used to use a fair amount of oil not excessive but had to be topped up every month with just under half a liter
Then i changed to synta silver and hasnt lost a drop over the past 2 months havent had to top it up still keep a eye on it but seems fine to me as the gold had cased 1 of my tappets to tap abit aswell but all good now
Not sure if the gold is that much thiner but will definatly be using it again
