Fitting a boost gauge is vital to troubleshooting (and easy to do *search the forum for a guide*)
next...Vagcom diagnostic session is THE next step you should take (after boost gauge so you have a boost reference point pre parts replacement etc)
if you cant get to someone with Vagcom???
you can still retrieve the fault codes that are stored by the Motronic...all you need is a 12v lamp or LED and a small jumper wire....(or you can follow Pauls instructions and wire it up to an unused bulb in the instrument cluster as a permanent and nifty solution!)
instructions and codes are below
Turn off the ignition. Pull the two fuses with the red cover over the both of them at the most forward part of the fuse board. It says something on the red cover but can't remember what.
Leave for a minute or two. Put them back. Seemed to solve my problem when I had a boost leak and I repaired it. Kept playing up until I reset the ECU.

Thanks for the advice guys,I realy do appreciate it,I will take your advice and fit a boost gauge, and pull the codes. I do have an alarm ,not sure if is an aftermarket one though, its a Sigma SN30 Siren I had trouble with it going of for no resson,so I had the local alarm people discconect the siren, but this was a couple of years ago, never had it reconected, I live in a quiet relitivley crime free ar'ea,not to sure now though,I live 8miles away from IPSWICHwhere there to busy stabing, shooting, and killing, to steal cars.To get back to the car,and possible coil problem ,it starts ok so do's that rule out the coil.Prob'ably a stupid question, but how much is the software for vagcom,
Thanks again LOU
Sigma is an aftermarket alarm, if the siren has gone wrong then get the rest of it out, it will be cutting the ignition circuit as part of its protection, at least find the cut in the wiring and rejoin.
You have got to rule out the unknown.

Check the electrical earth connections to inlet manifold, bunch of brown wires. If it happens on decelleration its not a boost thing, more like an electrical fault. Doing the blinks with a bulb is dead easy once you've sussed it.
Cheers Rob I will take it to a specialist and get it checked out.
Newsh, the car cuts out somtimes on deaccel'eration, and the dash lights up but the violent jolt happens on accel'eration mostley at around 1500/200revs sometimes more, I have'nt noticed the dash lights coming on when accelerating, but then again it all happens very quickley and the car restarts itself, may be before the lights have a chance to come on, just don't know.
Many thanks Lou
I have been to busy at work to do anything on the car, but I thought mention that its devel'oped a new symptom, when cold it wont start properly it it strugles to fire on all cyl'inders for a few seconds until you blip the throt'tle a few times then its ok,just wondered if it could point to the coil or not.
