    Thanks for the replies everyone. As suggested by Mikes2, I checked between pins 18 and 19 today and found that YES I have continuity/a short between the pins.
    So at least I know its definitely the ECU causing the fuse to blow. I've found an ECU repair company online so will probably send it to them for repair.
    I will do an update once I've got it back to confirm it fixed the fault.

        I sent the ECU away for repair and it was the diode that others mentioned to check that had burnt out.

        So thanks again for everyone's help.

          Great news!
          Glad the car is running, must be very satisfying.
          And a clue to fixing this old ECU I have here too!
