Does anyone on here know where I can get a Special tool for cambelt change for my 1996 ABY?

Also are those parts listed above still available? ie waterpump? etc.. and would I get them from the websites of those company names stated?

Also when referring to a CrMo, do you mean the crank shaft pulley? and is this a modified one from Terrybullwon?

    Thank you,

Chris (Looking at doing my cambelt change myself... (Atm Audi aren't doing parts anymore so its very difficult to source parts.)

Flippin Audi and the nla scenario. They do make owning one of their vehicles very trying. I could maybe help you out with the crank locking tool so maybe that's a help. Pm me if you like. Regards Lynn.

If you have a decent air gun you won’t need any locking tool. If your not changing the bottom pulley you don’t require any special tools just a bit of using your head

Air guns are known for cracking the OE pulleys, which are weak as it is.

I made my own locking tool in half an hour with a piece of pipe, a short length of angle iron, grinder and a welder.

Well worth doing as you have it for next time.

Air gun for a timing belt ? Probably the worst advice I've ever seen on this forum. I have a locking tool that I'll be looking to sell as I sold my S2. Let me know if you're interested.. It's made by 4M

Air gun to open the bottom pulley mike it’s serious tight. 5 Cylinder timing belts are the easiest belt ever to to do why talk it up be be something complicated when it’s not !!!!

With a fragile pulley like on the I5, I wouldn't go anywhere near it with an air gun.

Maybe the air gun will get the bolt off but so will an angle grinder eventually. Doesn't mean it is OK.

There is a seriously large number of upsetting stories around the audi forums of peoples engines being destroyed by failed crank pulleys. Why anyone would risk this for the sake of sorting the correct tool I don't know.

Get the tool, get the 3/4 in drive breaker bar and probably a pole to slide over that to get the leverage and enjoy driving around in your car until the next belt change comes round.

And how do you torque it back up then Einstein. there is only one way to do it and it's not using air tools

Probably use an air gun to undo but only if you are going to replace the bottom crank pulley and then install and torque as per manual

I only suggested using the air gun to open the bottom pulley there seems to be a lot of aggression to anyone who suggests something that’s not by the book on this forum. Einstein I’m sure never done any timing belts if you don’t like what some (suggests ) why attack them for it

                              Hardly attacking you, is it?

If you recommend something can scrap someone's engine, then I think it is our duty to challenge the idea, don't you?

I'm all for doing things in unconventional manners as long as not detrimental.

But a rattle gun, on these engines, is bad news, very bad news.

The timing belt isn’t too bad to do, there is a guide on the forum too https://www.s2forum.com/articles/199...-renewal-guide make sure you change the bottom pulley. For either oe or one of the billet ones.

also make sure you get the £30 coated washer and new stretch bolt.

on timing you need to set the timing 1/2 tooth to the left as you look at it.

3/4” kit is essential as it needs a lot of torque to do up properly. I had to jump up and down on the breaker bar to undo mine the last time
