Ski, Dunno if this will Help, but i had exactly the same sort of problem... Would be on and off over a period of three weeks. In the end it blew my 5th cylinder spark plug right out..

The car would rock.. really crappy acceleration.. it would rev slowly, felt as if the clutch was slipping.. gear stick would shake like hell.

So I would say check the cooil lead is on properly and check the seating of the spark plugs too!

PS when it did blow the spark plug, i had oil all over y the block.. and a nice james bond style blue mist from the back effect

that helps a LOT!!! many thanx... its been recommended to me to check this item.

Due to long working hours, i have booked wednesday to fix this problem, so i will check the plugs, coils, leads, compression test etc..

hopfulle, i will have same problem as you, and it will be a simple coil / plug replacement.. lets hope its as simple as it sounds and hope i dont encounter the james bond stylie effect

      any other sugestions welcome...

I think it will be due to spark plugs being loose or bad coil lead to one of the spark plugs. Basically car is misfiring thats why the crappy acceleration, rocking and bad idle.

PS im not mechanically minded, but thats what was causing my problem.

I just noticed this thread but it really sounded as a ignition problem from the first post.
Hope the new plugs will solve this. I could nearly bet they will.

To you all: Check regularily that your plugs are tight. The 20v head tends to loosen them by itself!!!!!

They should be a bit black. That's normal. The electrode should be clean.

Hope you cure the problem Ski.

GSF or Eurocar parts will be cheaper for the plugs.

                    fellas...

i put new plugs in.. it cost me like £60.. and no difference what so ever.. still mis firing like hell...

the engine dude recons its the coil on cilender no.2.

as you know each coil is like mega money, and he says no way to test it.

is there a way to test a sprak plug coil?

Hmm test 'em then. Take the fuel pump relay out, fabricate somekind of grounding for the plugs and leave the ignition assy on the engine having the plugs grounded (with something you just made) to the engine properly. Then ask a friend to "start" the car when you're inspecting the plugs. You should see the sparks clearly.
Starting to be a bit tired but hope you understood what I ment.

well i got 2 options... (well 3, but i dont want to buy a whole unit for a million squid)

1 ) rip coil out then re-solder the cables to new one

                              2) take it all to million bits, then feed the new cables under the rest of the coils and wire it up to the... main external cable.

either way.. its gonna be fussy..

im gonna go for adding new one with new cable WITHOUT soldering which means i gonna have to mess around with the wires/cables as they look almost inpossible to untangle/unattach

wish me luck, 3 weeks my car has been off the road now.. hopefully i will get a new coil for weekend (hopefully)

cheers fellas.. i just hope it is the coil..
